1st day out in a park (HS30)
May 15, 2012

Just trying what I can capture while strolling my baby.

I think these are good enough for 1st day with the camera.

All have been developed under my default SilkyPix config and resized down to 1600x1200 (with aspect ratio enabled).

These turtles are as small as palm IIRC.

Moving along, I saw these two Mourning Doves under a tree. I am trying to get closer but they keep on walking too.

Up that tree, a Common Grackle is staring at me...

Up in the sky, I saw this plane pulling a Geiko banner.

And the reason why I went out with my baby, to show her this cute gosling.

After an hour of strolling, I stopped in the middle of a bridge and captured this scenic muddy river of Emerald Necklace park.

I really love your critter shots. My favorites in this series are the Goslings, doves and the Grackle. Wonderful natural coloration and sharpness which is terrific not to mention the guy that took these really nice shots. So glad to see you having fun with your HS30 so soon, too.

I am glad you are having fun with Elisha and all the best to Sheryl from the two of us.

I hate to seem like a party pooper but when you post images, can you make them so we can fit them on a screen

If people want to see the full sized image, me for example I will cheerfully click on the link to the original.

I have a 22 inch widescreen and these don't even fit that. The other thing is that some of us are on small data caps and images this size sure take a lot to load.
BTW I like the last shot of the trees and water.

Love dat Fuji

Then get one that supports workable resolutions, 1920x1200 is a minimum these days with HD video. Just because you want to live in the past doesn't mean we all have to.

Paul.

Outstanding for your first day out with the new camera Joms & very interesting shots too.

I keep coming back to wanting a superzoom but just cannot decide which way to go. I have just about made up my mind to go with a clearance priced Canon T2i with the 18-55 & 70-300 instead.

Thanks for sharing & I'm looking forward to see more of your pics.

Dan.

I actually wanted to upload these to my DPR gallery but for some reason, DPR uploading is such a horrible task to do nowadays.

I forgot that there is an option to share web size for these images so I will do it next time.

Thanks for your comment anyways.

Hi Dan,

I was an HS10 user before and a lurker of HS20 so I pretty much know the ins and outs of this camera OOTB.

Your comments are very much appreciated. Just so you know, I already sold my 55-250mm IS II coz I always want that reach and wide combo. I have been contemplating to get a walkabout lens say Tamron 28-300mm but it is not that cheap for me and would cost one HS30 so that is the reason why I bought this camera.

I will be more than happy to share more pics taken with this camera. It's kinda challenge to shoot while the baby is hanging on a sling in front of you lol.

Cheers,

Hi Joms:

Seems like we've taken a similar path lately with our cameras. I too sold my SX40 and just last Friday purchased a HS30 for $409. I had originally set in my mind to wait until sub $400, but what the heck it was close enough.

So far I'm not REAL impressed with the IQ at base ISO, but it has enough other qualities that I admire that prompt me to keep it. The IQ at base ISO with some advanced sharpening is close enough to the FZ150 and SX40 provided I don't look above 50%. The manual zoom is the largest overriding factor. The rubberized body and build are nice, as is the DR, high ISO output and much improved EVF. But honestly the manual zoom is the deal maker. The video sucks but my new Panny ZS20 with true 1080P HD can handle what I require.

Looks like you're enjoying your HS30 which I plan on doing as well in the near future.

lw

Are you really happy with these images, or you just like to use the camera? I can't believe you find this better then SX40.

Why wouldn't I?

That's ISO-160 from SX40.

Sorry guys, but
In reply to jcmarfilph, May 15, 2012

I can't believe what I'm reading here. The images look really soft to me; one user was comparing his HS30 to the FZ150 and SX40 as almost as good in terms of IQ, provided there was some pretty hefty PP applied! In his post he put more emphasis on the zoom ring - everyone to his own.
Maybe it's the way you've presented them here?

I don't have anything to compare with myself (my 7 year old FZ5 doesn't really compete) but I've seen some excellent shots taken with other mzooms (Sony HX100v/200v, FZ150).

I've also seen some pretty good shots on this forum from the HS20.

Anyway, if you're happy then I'm happy for you - enjoy your camera and photography

Hi Joms,

let's forget about other brands and even HS20, just say what do you think in comparison with the HS10 - not features or speed etc. - just abt. the IQ - low/high ISO and colour. Thank you.

You can always find a bad SX40 example to prove your point. I was just curious how you can be happy with these HS30 images.
