What camera and lens?

I think it shoud be mandatory to show exif information and whay type of lens that was used when members of this forum upload pictures. I find it very anoying when I see a fine pic and then there is no info of what lens whay used.

I agree, especially since this is a gear based forum. It might be helpful to put in SW used for processing as well.

I do not agree about the "mandatory" part.

I'm not convinced about the "mandatory" part - we are just here to share what we want - but I guess most of us leave technical informations in the EXIF, so a plugin in your browser could help

In regard of the question "what lens was used ?", I guess most people here are glad to answer And a lot of us only use a few lenses and can't add this information for each post.

But I must say big "Thank you" to those great people here, that leave the data in EXIF - or add them in the post - and helped me to improve myself Even if I don't post often, I learn a lot reading this forum !

I've been noticing that too ... almost like some FF shots are getting slipped in here and there ... kinda sad/embarassing.

I also appreciate seeing this information. (Of course, the EXIF isn't always sufficient to determine the lens used...particularly with manual focus lenses.)

Of course, the idea that a photograph is wonderful primarily due to the lens and camera and so forth is silly. You might as well say something like "that's a lovely sonata; what model of piano do you play?"

I agree.

I agree. I find it annoying too. When I post pics, I always include camera model, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, lens make and model, and focal length. If I used a tripod then I usually mention that too.

Have not posted images in a while, but...
In reply to kriztian, May 13, 2012

I usually include both camera body, lens and basic settings...

Personally I do not find it important and i think most here are very kind to include the information, but when I do find it important and not there, it is very easy to ask for it.

Except that this is a gear-oriented forum. It's not intended to be a photo gallery.

Hi kriztian ! It depends of you web browser.

For Chrome, I found "EXIF reader" to be convenient (just hover over the picture to get EXIF data in the upper left) :

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nchnjcdahncnilbicljpnbfobpnljnki#detail/nchnjcdahncnilbicljpnbfobpnljnki

For Firefox, I use FxIF (but you have to right click, this is forbidden on some sites) ; you get more informations with this one but in a popup window ...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fxif/?src=search

Each browser has a site for extensions with complete informations about versions, and compatibility problems (when you upgrade your browser, you may have to update the plugins).

You'll find a lot of pluggins for your browser (Safari, IE, Opera, ... whatever) with a google search
I guess you may also find something like that for Android and iOS browsers

Regards, fred
