Really like this shot. Nicely composed! I bet you can also play with it in B&W with a red filter (perhaps).

You know -- flying monkeys come in handy. "Fly my pretties!"

Nice dog, bokeh portrait. Hope the weather eases up on you way up there.

Great shot! I like how you framed it -- B&W processing is well done. Nice to see you posting and sharing. Hope all is well!

Belvedere Castle (Central Park), Sky Top detail (Mohonk)
In reply to SLOtographer, May 13, 2012

Having some issues with OMD files upstate here - for the moment a few mono JPGs with a little post-epoxure coaxing.

Just intended to do some high ISO night walk stuff, but figured I'd give the Live Time long exposure feature a go since I had a convenient railing to set the camera upon. First was OOC, following that was a LR4 Auto Tone and some sharpening.

Inside the Skytop tower at Lake Mohonk:

This probably should be viewed in a different series, if not alone, but you know me [g]. I think I have a lot of nice scenics from staying about Lake Mohonk for 2 nights, but this was the one I wanted to get my hands on first:

I took the Oly 45 to a friend's birthday party. Here are some of the portraits. Camera was set on face recognition, which worked fairly well. I'm learning that the quality of the light on the person is as important (if not more so) than the lens. As is the background selection - even if it's out of focus. As always, I'm not totally satisfied with them, but I'd be interested in views. Correct white balance was a problem - they all needed quite a bit of fixing.

No. 1

Playful, engaging pose. Well done.

Is #2 or #3 better:

No. 3

  1. 3 is better IMO for the subject interaction. I feel it's a bit tight, but this is all subjective.

No. 4

No 4 is a great shot!

No. 5

This one is fun -- the sunglasses perhaps subtract, but it all depends on what you are going for. I might also have asked her to pull her glasses up onto her head and position myself to the right to get some angle in her shoulders (if possible0. It's well executed though, so this isn't a criticism. Just tossing out ideas.

No. 6
This one still doesn't look right. White balance?

It's also out of focus. I'd switch to small AF point and set. If you're having WB problems, I'd shoot a grey card (for panny). I have a bit of trouble in covered shade with the GH2 colors at times. The light could be complex with light bouncing off of surfaces that create a color cast. Even Oly cameras (my EP3) can struggle. Grey cards can make a big difference.

Overall great job! I like your work, and the GH2 + 45/1.8 combo is winner.

All very striking landscapes, but the 20mm captures have the most pop for me.

Sunsets
In reply to SLOtographer, May 13, 2012

Some sunset images from the last couple of months. All shots are raw and processed in LR3.

1. GH2 with a GND 2-stop.

2. Strolling with my EP3.

3. Cayucos Pier (Please pardon my FF camera -- I had to use it for a little portrait shoot. Then the light became awesome after wrap-up.)

This was just a backyard in Suburban North Carolina. One light in an umbrella, the rest ambient. I was there to shoot pics for this guys upcoming childrens pirates book that he is publishing.
