Cloudscapes....
May 11, 2012

I'm a sucker for great cloud formations and the clouds have been a little funky today. I quickly nipped out hoping to catch something worth shooting and grabbed these with my 5n, 16mm and 18-55mm. The DR of the 5n really helps in this kind of lighting as does liveview for nailing the exposure. I'm hoping these types of formations hang around for a day or two so I can get some more interesting shots.

Great choice of subject, I also love clouds. I really like #1 of Papillon and #2 of cxsparc.

Below some cloud snaps of mine, last two from my home, a good spot for enjoying clouds

Nice! Like the first 2 particularly.

Agree with you - the high DR of the Sony sensors help a lot with this type of shot.

I have much more trouble with my Canon 7D to maintain details in skies compared to my Nex-7. (In all fairness i have to say that i started to use LR4 at about the same time i got the Nex-7, and LR4 is fantastic in using every bit of information you have in your file.

Decent cloud formations can really make or break a landscape shot IMHO, I would have liked some more foreground interest on the first two but sometimes that's just not possible, clouds have a habit of drifting where they like :). Unfortunately they've disappeared today but at least they have been replaced by blue sky and not rain :).

OK some of my favorites taken with my NEX-7.

I have included access to the originals although as usual shrunk to comply with Dpreview.

I just had to find the right spot, sometimes it's easy to make a nice image when the conditions are right :).

They certain add more power to a shot Tony. Again I like the wide expanse, downright beautiful to see.

Went to Darwin in Aussie last year in the wet season, man you would love it mate !!. The clouds as storms come in from 3 different fronts is mind blowing to see and all at 32 celsius, its truly amazing and hot.

All the best in the UK Tony, nice work as always.

Cheers mate.

That was F8 at 18mm on the 18-55mm, distortion corrected in LR4 :).

Spare room here for you anytime mate, be a pleasure. Plenty of lenses to play with, well the opposite of yours, but they are here

All the best Tony and if you ever do, let me know.

Thanks Danny, much appreciated and you never know, I may just take you up on that. I'm guessing I'd need a sturdy tripod if I ever borrowed your lenses for a shoot :). Likewise if you ever make it over to the UK consider the offer reciprocated :).
