Rugby shots with the 1D MKIII ( and 7D)
May 9, 2012

Hi all,

I was taking photos at the recent Heineken Cup rugby Semi Final in Dublin ( the equivalent of Champions League in football/soccer)

1D MKIII was the main camera together with the 400/2.8 + 1.4TC and the 7D + 70-200/2.8 for close action.

Great job !
In reply to jhal, May 9, 2012

...Love them all but #1 is just "action perfect", #3 actually hirts a bit(...ouch!) and the last one is a precious, precious moment.

A big 'C' floating on the field
In reply to jhal, May 9, 2012

I know these guys are pretty tough, bu I wonder if they hurt themselves kicking that big (C) that seems to be on the field in each picture.

Other than that, these are really excellent!

Hi Gearóid

No Ulster bias at all; in fact I have a bias towards Munster ( living in Limerick). If only Munster had beaten Ulster in the QF...

yes, a couple of guys got injured as the big (C) got on the way. Joking aside I syndicate the images via sports agencies and it's best practice to apply some form of "protection"...

I hope it's not too distracting for normal viewing purposes.

Thanks for your comments

DPR never reviewed the 1DMKIII..many complaint but I think that was a "political decision".

Anyway the 1D MKIII is a fantastic camera even with today's standards and I see many pros around the stadiums still using it along with the MK IV.

I never had a problem with it and I sent it for the Canon fix. My keeper rate is approx 85% but I've learn how to use the camera. Lock focus and wait a spit second before start shooting. This give the AF a chance to lock focus and track

The 400/2.8 also helps...

Glad you like them.

The match was over and the Ulster players were going around the stadium thanking their fans. I stayed behind to take photos of the player celebrating for the agency and then Best & son passed in front of me.

I've got a few more shots of the pair but I like the last one. To be critical with myself the TV crew is a bit distracting but there is little I could do....

Great shots and thanks for sharing. I can't make up my mind which one I like the best as they are all that good.

The EXIF is stripped so I can't tell but would you divulge which shots were from which camera? It's not important as they all stand on their own, just curiosity.

Thanks,

Bob
