May 9, 2012

Ok...can't await what will be revealed (and what NOT - just before Photokina 2012):

1) X2

2) M9M - monochrome only version of the M9

3) V-Lux who cares...

And I "fear" - M10 and Leica's "solution" for a mirrorless camera-system just around
Photokina later this year in September to be announced.

Someone with a better crystal ball?

Maybe this?!... Note how small it is compared to a D300!

But what I do wish is to replace my Dlux5 with a small, mirroless and lens interchangeable camera but a big sensor! Something with the size and the built of Panny GX1 and the sensor of Sony Nex 5n! I am sure it is technically possible since others are doing it!

Leica seems to be a brand who do not care much about consumer opinions... because if they do, they would have make the Fuji X100 (instead of Fuji) or maybe release a Digilux 2 mark II, with a better sensor but as closed as possible to the original. so tomorrow the "exciting" news will be an X1 "Titanium" edition ($3500dlls)... or maybe an X2 with faster autofocus than the X1... can´t wait!!

it'll be different
In reply to Michael S., May 9, 2012

it will be surprising and out-of-sync with the rest of the camera industry

just what we want and expect from Leica

My guess is the new products will include an X2, with about 18mp, full frame, 35mm 1.4 Summilux, and provision for an adapted Pansonic EVF.

You can fullfill your wish right now with the Olympus EM-5 but you are still quite
limited with high-grade lenses.

And for the Leica solution - as already offiically said by Mr. Kaufmann - not before Photokina in Sept. 2012 and then we still will have to wait if LEICA's solution is state of the art - or as it has been with X1 and M9 that they are, although good but technology wise far behind what's technically possible already.

Haha...now you have to specify - do you mean technology wise (what REALLY would be a big surprise if coming from LEICA) or did you just mean the (high) price tag?!

not technically possible
In reply to l_objectif, May 9, 2012

it is not technically possible

you get the G1X or the X100
Remember the 5N looks small but you must add lens size to the mix

If you throw in IQ, below FF, the xpro-1 is the supreme game in town. Runner up is the Nex series.

Come on guy! Leica deliverately picked May 10th. It's got to be the M-10. It is very obvious.

Honestly - I do HOPE that too...but - as Photokina too is in September 2012 I think we will just get the half "cake". - So X2, one or two updated M-lenses, another V-Lux who nobody cares about and the already told M9-M with b/w only sensor.

I hope but can't imagine they would bring the M10 too already...to have something big I believe Leica will hold it back until September together with the mirrorless, interchangeable lens product and the update for the S2, the S3.

But I do hope I am wrong with the M10...

Somehow, I am not intrested at all of em-5!... I also have some very nice Nikkor legacy and modern lenses that I would love to use with a mirrorless small camera

thank the gods they didn't. the X100 doesn't appeal to me at all. i would like the X1, it is a better camera with better controls.

... or maybe release a Digilux 2 mark II, with a better sensor but as closed as possible to the original.

that would be good.

Leica reads their own crystal ball and what they've produced in recent years has been excellent and sold well. I wouldn't read the meanderings of what goes on in internet forums either, on that basis.

A "monochrome M", to me, is a waste of development time and money. An updated Summicron 50 is nice but there was nothing wrong with the existing one.

I'd rather they push on into producing the equivalent of a digital Leica CL. Compatible with Leica M lenses, lower cost, smaller size, etc. The CL was very popular in its day. Leica discontinued it because of build quality and profitability issues, not because it wasn't selling well. They could do much better today.

There is no brand "good enough" to not pay attention of what people is saying in forums, blogs, or any other media; if they don´t, then they are doomed as simple as that. Why? Because young audiences could not care less about the "communion between camera and photographer" or how my grandpa used to take pictures 50 years ago. Today brands NEED to identify with consumers offering real added values, and people, at least like me, demands at least a reasonable money-to-end benefit ratio.

I think if Leica could make a Panasonic/Leica-brand MFT camera, would be a HUGE success.
