What I meant was, how many shutter actuations did you put on it when the problem showed up?

Apparently, there's no way to know that with the X100. I bought it used/open box.

Re: UPDATE #5 - Happy AND Disappointed...
In reply to DRabbit, May 15, 2012

Fuji turned the camera around in record time. From the day I shipped it to the day I got it back (today), it's been one week.

I haven't gotten too much of a chance to test it, but it appears the sticky-aperture issue is resolved. The lens assembly was replaced and the whole camera was cleaned according to their paperwork.

However... the camera was returned to me with a malfunctioning EVF. The OVF seems fine, and the LCD appears to be working as it should, but the EVF is not. The image is all posterized-looking and 1/2 purple. I can see it while shooting, when looking at a preview photo (through the EVF, not LCD) and even in the menu when looking at it through EVF. Something is obviously wrong.

So I called and it's going back. They are sending me a FEDEX label to return it to them right away... hopefully I'll be able to drop it off at FEDEX today.

I've been very pleased with their service on the phone -- they are very nice. The turn around time on the first repair was exceptionally fast. And they fixed this for me outside of warranty, free of charge (I bought the camera as a used/open box through Amazon). However, I am disappointed there is this new problem now. I love the little X100, but I don't want to end up regretting my purchase of it!

Sorry about that!
A little over 100. I literally only had the camera for like 4-5 days.

Geez that sucks. I actually sent mine in for SAB yesterday, I hope to get it back ASAP. I never ever thought that I would get SAB, what with many people stating that a very small percentage of X100s get them, but now I am pretty sure that it's more than just a small percentage. Hopefully when I get mine back the EVF will be OK. On a more positive note, the IQ and size of the X100 is truly remarkable, and really enjoy the camera despite its quirks.

Amy, have you tried...
In reply to DRabbit, May 15, 2012

A full reset, firmware upgrade and fresh battery?

That really sucks, I'd try everything possible to clear the fault before sending back again.

Good luck

It was reset when it got to me (because no battery for 24 hours). I did try to reset it again though. Tried both batteries. Tried adjusting brightness. No go. When I look at the menu in the EVF you can see 1/2 of it is purple (bottom half). I did look it up online to see if it was a glitch and the only thing I found was someone with the same problem returned theirs for a new one.

Luckily they are close to me (in NJ - I'm in NY), so if I get it in FEDEX today they'll have it tomorrow.

I would still try the firmware update.
In reply to DRabbit, May 15, 2012

I had an issue with cold auto white balance, which cleared when I did a firmware update.

Good luck

Yeah, but I had 1.21 installed before it went for repair and it was fine. It's off... dropped it off at FEDEX already so it'll get to them tomorrow. With any luck I'll have it back by the end of the week.

Sad to hear that Amy but these are almost the same problems I had with Fuji support.

I got mine sent a year ago for a cleaning (the sensor was dirty from the beginning).

Go it back quickly (after a week) cleaned nicely but with broken EVF (purple stripes all over and a hair inside).

Let's say I was hugely disappointed, but the second repair was lightning fast with apologies.

From that point on - no issues whatsoever (keeping fingers crossed, no SAB and post-warranty already).

Hoping this time you'll get no more problems and start happily shooting like you should

Regards

Re: UPDATE #6 - Back at Fuji
In reply to dengx, May 18, 2012

It arrived there first this this morning. Fuji guy I talked to later in the day says it will likely be repaired tomorrow and hopefully shipped tomorrow, so I could have it back by Monday.

Yeah, I found out today I'm not alone. When I talked to a Fuji guy on Tuesday, he was quite surprised and said most repairs are flawless and don't have to come back. The guy today said the "EVF Purple-Lines" thing sometimes happens. Has something to do with a loose or pinched connection inside the camera.

Let's say I was hugely disappointed, but the second repair was lightning fast with apologies.

Apparently, SAB will be fixed regardless of warranty as long as you have your original proof of purchase... so keep that safe!

Me too... and I miss it!

The Fuji repair/support staff on the phone are VERY nice. I certainly haven't gotten crabby about any of this with them since I got a deal on a used camera and they are fixing it free of charge. I could have returned it, but didn't really didn't have the extra $300 to buy brand new, and figured that even that doesn't necessarily save me from the SAB issue.

It's a little frustrating, but hopefully it comes back soon in tip-top shape and ready to shoot!

LAST Update (I hope!)
In reply to DRabbit, May 24, 2012

I got the x100 back today finally. It finally all appears to be fixed!

All I can say is that Fuji service was very easy to deal with and the turn-around was quick. I could be mad about the fact it didn't come back perfect the first time, but I know things happen, and they paid for shipping both way the second time and fixed it again nice and fast.

Hopefully now I can just enjoy the camera

Picture from today:

Thanks to everyone who followed along...

In reply to DRabbit, May 25, 2012

Sticky, then they damage it, then they "fix it", who knows what they broke this time. No way. I've had 30 cameras including the F30, 31fd, and not once have I had to send any back to get fixed. You guys love Fuji no matter what. That I understand.
