Amazon UK D800 orders being reinstated!
May 6, 2012

I have just received a phone call from Amazon UK to say that within 24 hours we will all receive an e-mail telling us that our orders will be reinstated at their original place in the queue.

Apparently they say that the order cancellations were an automatic computer response to the supply situation and that this is being remedied. I have been told that they are expecting a delivery very soon sufficient to clear all preorders. They will also be maintaining the £2099 price for those that ordered at this price.

That actually makes sense - they've got code that is set to kick orders off the system at 90 days and send out an automated e-mail, and that code got all the pre-orders today.

Good to see they jumped all over it though.

OMG! This just adds to the total fiasco, farce, shambles (pick a word!).

Not doubting what you have been told but I wait to see if this materialises.

Anything in writing?

But not all of the pre-orders were made 90 days ago. My order was 16th of March which is about 50 days ago.

I hope that they do reinstate the orders but I'm not going to hold my breath !

That does seem to run somewhat contrary to some people's experiences of receiving non-automated responses to subsequent questions.

I'd love this to be true, but I'm too much of a cynic. Sorry. Absolutely no offence intended. Was your pre-order at 2099 or 2399? I guess i can see them doing this for the 2399 ones.

Not yet Mark but I had not requested a phone call so it was a bit of a surprise. He said that just 1 hour before customer service had been informed from above that this had been discovered and a policy decision had been made to find a way of reinstating the orders or if that was not possible to create new ones. I asked specifically if this would lose me my place in any queue they had and he reassured me that it would not and that the forthcoming delivery would in any event clear the preorder queue. They will be sending out a confirmatory e-mail to all within 24 hours, presumably when they have worked out the technicalities and persuaded the computers to do the job.

We will see.

This would be an amazing twist to what has already been a very long saga,
but:
1. I have received a non-automated response confirming the cancellation.

2. Even if they were to reinstate the cancelled orders, I would find it hard to believe that they are "expecting a delivery very soon sufficient to clear all preorders".

If they are really about to receive a large delivery then why would they (at the very last moment) tell everybody that their orders have been cancelled? Something doesn't seem right here.

My order was for £2099 on March 16th. From what he said it seems that customer service were only aware of this about-face a couple of hours ago and that explains why they produced stock answers to complaints this morning.

Customer service claimed that they were only made aware of the changed situation a couple of hors ago.

I had all but given up and resigned myself to getting a D700, in fact I very nearly bought one off eBay, if I had and then learnt of this I'd have gone mad.

OK, I'll give this a little longer to see what happens.

Amazing - hope the computer doesn't go down again.

This sound like a tor'touse / painful release we are experiencing with the D800...

Thanks for posting this - it sounds promising (although I am turning into a Doubting Thomas). I currently have a second query of the day outstanding to Amazon UK customer services. I'll post their response when it comes.
