A little gypsy locomotive used for logging giant Redwoods more than a hundred years ago. She has a radically geared winch on front to drag enormous logs out of the woods and up to the track side. Now housed at Fort Humboldt State Historic Park logging exhibit. One weekend per month, in the Spring and Summer, we steam her up and give kids of all ages a ride through the park. Last Summer, one engineer over fired her and she blew the safety valve on top of the steam collector. The noise left me deaf for hours. This is the last year, though. California's budget woes have closed many state parks. For this one, the light at the end of the tunnel will be extinguished in July. Rich

There is no such animal as a “dead system” – despite what the best efforts of Marketing would have you believe.. That there are many photographers whose opinions would render any extant system obsolete is without dispute, and indispensable to the bottom line of present day camera manufacturers.

thanks Rich

A generation from now live steam demonstration machines will all but have disappeared. That's a shame b/se this is a unique machine, and I notice 4WD

I guess that enormous pulley was for winching logs

Hennesee Germany
In reply to Rriley, May 5, 2012

I took this one while my wife and children were walking towards the airfield on the left right in the middle of the mountains near the Hennesee in Germany.
I've used my good old E-400 which still works.

This seascape was shot in Vendée (french atlantic coast). After days of a strong wind , all the beach was covered with a thick layer of seafoam.

I like the rather pastel color treatment and catching that woman far right in the right composition adds to it

Or somthing to that effect.

Ok There are lots of pictures so now is the time to opt out.

I went to Struis Baai over the long weekend. Had lots of camera problems but got these eventualy. I Have posted some of these in a separate thread. There are some I have not posted before.

Had a few hassles getting these but here they are. I shoot with 3 different camera’s 1 went out in with a thunk , the batteries slowly died with the others. This was over 4 days. It was a bit of a debacle.
Picture in next post.

In reply to CollBaxter, May 5, 2012

I started with the E-5.

Early morning.

Then a Shutter blade broke.
Moved on to the E-620
180-180

12-60

And when all the DSLRs had failed or where dead I was left the PS. A canon SX220 HS the batteries eventually died on that as well.

Similar to the one I took with the E-620 ( I managed t squeeze a few shoots out of it) I don’t know which one I prefer. The canons shoots are OK you just can’t manipulate them much.

a rather misty, foggy day, hence the lighting, I thought about boosting the saturation but this is how it looked to me on that day

those are great, gives one a feeling of the place. I also like your treatment, they are colorful but not overly saturated. Sorry to hear about the camera difficulties
