>>>Saturday B&W Thread - 5/5/2012>>>
May 5, 2012

Hello Everyone -

It is Cinco de Mayo today - let's kick off another week of fantastic monochromes.

Post a maximum of two images (post them in a single post, not split over two posts). It can be any camera, you can say what it is if you like. You can also say whether it was an in camera B&W and the mode or what PP software you use if you like.

Reply to this first post and change your subject line to reflect your subject. Please switch to "threaded view" instead of "flat view". I try and respond to all posts, but if your post is not threaded properly I may miss it.

You may include the colour originals if you like for comparison, this doesn't count toward your two weekly submissions.
It would be nice to hear why you chose B&W instead of colour.

Please be nice and comment on any photos you like. If possible, let's leave a full day for posting of the images and then we can follow up with comments. This should allow more people an opportunity to post an image.

Thanks in advance to all who participate and for making this something to look forward to each week.

No matter what camera a person has, if they don't know how to use it then it doesn't matter. Dez, the clarity you get form any camera is amazing! Wonderful shot!!

Can I come and take lessons from you?

Two monochromes of parts of my eyeglasses. Taken with two different cameras, both with the aid of a +4 diopter closeup lens. Processed in ACR/Lightroom/Photoshop + Nik Silver Efex. Textures added via overlay using Flypaper textures.

I don't know why the EXIF data disappeared, but it's probably of no importance.

Some of you may have seen alternative colour versions of this in a separate thread, I have now cleaned the glass and played a bit with the positioning and direction of the compass, relative to the light source.

LX5, AP, f3.5, ShSp 0.5, -0.7EV ISO400

Used cloning tool in PSE to remove some of the more distracting reflections from the fabric.

I posted this bw conversion before. Applying a cyano filter to colour pics is not advised as this screws up a lot. However on BW it can give interesting results;

It was nice . I tried to get more of a silhouette style with ominous sky;

Used the freeware plugin virtual photographer which imho is one of the best arround;

The tricks in the sky probably would not worked on the jpeg , so used the raw. I always shoot in raw+jpeg mode.
Enjoy

Great shot Dez, you captured the emotion . Even from the back i can see his disappointment about having to take a break.

An old school friend used to play in aruba mayor and was scouted by one of your premier clubs . He did not make it due to shoulder operation . Throwing at these speeds do take a strain.
He still throws like mad however.
