real or not? - Samyang / Rokinon 8mm f2.8
May 4, 2012

This lens was sort of announced for March.
Has anyone seen it available anywhere?
I seem to not be able to find it on a manufacturers or distributors web-site.
If somebody actually found it, could you please post a link?

I'm sure it is real, it just takes time to get to full production !

I think it is following in the venerable Nex tradition of being tantalisingly just out of reach, so that a frenzy of anticipation is generated!
Please let me know if you manage to hunt it down!

not at Amazon, we're talking about latest SMALL fisheye
In reply to jljonathan, May 4, 2012

The Amazon listing for Rokinon fisheye for Nex eMount, as of May 4, 2012 is not the camera we're talking about.

We're talking about the newest, super sharp Rokinon design that is on sale for micro four thirds, the lens that will look like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-FE75MFT-B-Fisheye-Olympus-Panasonic/dp/B005TOU804/

Several of us are wondering when the announced eMount version of the above lens will be shipping.

I think you have it confused with the generic larger less desirable f3.5 version that has a built on nex adapter???

Got a reply from Rokinon.
They now say release is in July.
Too late for my trip this summer, but still interested...

The design is actually apparently totally different from (and better than) that m4/3 fisheye. Which makes it even more intriguing even though I'm not a fisheye kind of person.

I hope it has no issues on the NEX-7
In reply to cptrios, May 5, 2012

I'm interested in it, I hope it performs well on the NEX-7, then after de-fishing it could be a usable UWA.

we're both planning on using it as wide angle
In reply to Lightshow, May 5, 2012

My 3 lens kit might be the 8mm, the Alpha 18-55mm, and the Alpha 85mm. With the 8mm to be straightened out and used as an ultra wide angle. When one of the techy types here shows us that the Samyang/Rokinon straightened compares OK with the Sony 16mm.

According to Rokinon Facebook, this lens was originally planned to be released in March, delayed to April, then May, and most recently, to July.

sample of the MFT version on the Nex

This is a sample I took with the Samyang 7.5mm MFT version after shaving and customization on the Nex. I believe this was at F8. It is still very usable at F3.5. It is wider, sharper in corners and has less CA than the Nex fish converter.

Note that it is also wider as the new Samyang 8mm for Nex will be, that one will fully cover the sensor.

rather enterprising to make your own lens mount
In reply to patLum, May 5, 2012

By the way kind of like the photo you posted from the micro 4/3 version of the Samyang fisheye.

What other lens customizations have you done?

Knalberto interesting use of the fisheye lens
In reply to Knallberto, May 6, 2012

For a closeup. You are also making the point that the stereographic kind of fisheye images produced by Samyang/Rokinon might not even look like fisheye photos. Depending on the scene.

I bought Samyang 7.5mm for two reasons:

a) smaller size, but also
b) nearest distance 9 cm = 1 cm from front lens

Samyangs are the best lenses you can get. I use them for Canon (mount) and m4/3, NX, NEX - with adapters.

24mm is too expensive ... € 666 ... not worth.
8/14/35/85 were € 250 - € 350! Prices now are higher
