Pic 2: Am a Big fan of 'nervous bokeh' photo genre. Subject is sharp and bokeh chaotic but together it's balanced....just. Can be unsettling but results are intruiging never the less.

Welcome, buddy!

Once the Hyperprime review is done, we'll be doing a Noctilux - Nokton - Hyperprime shoot-out, maybe with a Summilux as a "control lens."

Should be very interesting indeed!

For those that don't know, we've already done the Nokton and Noctilux individual reviews:

I'm not really liking it that much.
DOF is shallow, but the rendering looks
like a very old Zeiss lens from the 30s

I agree.

Excellent question, Irakly
In reply to Irakly Shanidze, May 8, 2012

Hi Irakly, great questions. I would say that the SLR Magic is closer in character to the Noctilux f/0.95 than to the prior Noctilux. There's a steep fall off between focussed and OOF segments of the images, with a somewaht more corrected look (less Noctilux magic and blooming, coma, etc...). Specular highlights can be harsh for all 3 lenses, but seems best controlled with the f/0.95 followed by the Noctilux f/1 followed by the SLR Magic lens.

Each has it's very unique rendering, but in general, I'd call the f/1 Noctilux to have the most "distinct" fingerprint look of all 3 lenses, followed by the SLR Magic lens, which has some of that old school charm, followed by the more perfected f/0.95 Noctilux.

This is purely subjective, by the way, but I have used all 3 lenses extensively and plan to do a head-to-head shoot out with both f/0.95 lenses.

Yes, that goes for me as well Ashwin.

This too:

I'd never heard of this lens before. It looks like quite a (comparative) bargain. But it's not for me I'm afraid. Anything below f1.4 and I struggle a bit unfortunately

All the best

Thank you my friend. How do they explain such a drastic difference in price between Leica M version and the rest?
