Olympus OMD + 45mm F1.8 Koninginnendag /Queensday in Leyden
Apr 30, 2012

Hi i wanted to try out my brand new OMD for streetphotography. i have only the 45mm F1.8 at the moment (12mm is in back order)
also the sun hood is in backorder and you really need it!

i thought the style i-enhance would be a good chocice but it turend out to poppy in colors. but it was just a test to see how the camera deals with this kind of situation. I hated the auto switch between LCD and EV. every time i wanted to touch the LCD the EV went on.

the EV is good and practical but has a short delay before it gives the image.
so fast switching to EV is impossible.

The LCD and EV are of a good quality. i used dark sunglasses and had no problem to see the ev and LCD.

All shots at F2.8 and about 1/2000-1/4000.

enjoy the Dutch crazy orange mania;->

Something a bit weird about the colour in these images dont you think? Nothing wrong with the images but do you think they are over exposed or something?

Holy over saturation batman. The images themselves are fine but I think I have to go recalibrate my eyes from the orange burn in.

Vibrant setting, over-exposed maybe?

Oversaturated, skin tone is way too much color.

I don't think it would go that extreme but maybe, it's even changing skin tones. First look made me think pop-art filter.

In reply to robert van keulen, May 1, 2012

RAW is really needed for these circumstances.
In reply to robert van keulen, May 1, 2012

I have pictures from koninginnedag too ( http://debra.zenfolio.com/koninginnedag-2012 and http://wwwis.win.tue.nl/~debra/photos/koninginnedag2012/ ) but a lot of pictures required -1EV exposure compensation in ACR to then raise shadows and midtones back to normal and end up with orange that wasn't hopelessly blown out.

Sunny weather is actually the worst for taking pictures. Koninginnedag was a torture test for the new E-M5. I'm happy to say that it did really well. (I did shoot with the kit lens and polarizer.)

No problem with the G1

This was taken at the Botermarkt at Leiden, straight into the sun. The Panny-Leica 25/1.4 and the G1, and a bit of LR4 captured the light quite well, I think.

as i mentioned before it was my first shoot with the camera and i did not know that the style i used " i-enhance" would boost all colors and contrast that much. with my dark sunglasses and a lot of sun it was difficult to see on the camera it self. for me it was just fun practicing so thats why i did not used raw format.
i did used RAW for the test shoot wit the 75-300mmEd see my other post.

robert.

The orange would be the problem (you have little of it).

Example.
In reply to Paul De Bra, May 1, 2012

Try this:

or this:

On the E-M5, all shots taken with 0EV, these shots required a -1EV compensation in ACR to remove the overexposure in the orange areas. This is quite typical for many digital cameras: the exposure is measured for RGB added together and when you have bright orange or red there is mostly R and little G and B causing wild overexposure of the red channel.

May be the G1 is a bit more forgiving in the red channel. My shots were taken with -1/3 EV. The shot below required +1EV in PP. No clipping at all.
