Very nice ones again! At least a bird I have seen before, albeit only once...

I prefer the ´flying approach´ - amazing captures! - but that last one is a real cracker of course.

Thank you for showing them.

Definitely some of your best shooting! Amazing IF shots in that light. What shutter & ISO? That last one is extra special too. Nice catch.

Fox kits - seven images
In reply to dongfanghong, Apr 29, 2012

I have been disappointed because the den where I photographed the fox kits in 2009 and 2010 was vacant in 2011. This year, I found that a ground hog had taken over that den.

Wednesday, as I was heading out on my walk, I noticed two Red Fox kits playing in a lightly wooded area adjacent to the 1st fairway. I was able to get a couple of shots before they got spooked and returned to the den - a den previously occupied by a Ground Hog for the last three or four years!

Thursday, I went out pretty early hoping to find them again. Their mom was walking up the cart path just as I started out. I got behind a tree and snapped a couple of shots of her as she walked by. Then I went to the den finding four kits at play. By the time I got close enough to take some photos, three of the kits had seen me and returned the den. But, the fourth was so busy eating a squirrel that he didn't notice me as I managed to get behind a large oak tree.

First two taken with the Big Beercan. The remainder taken with the Beercan.

well I must admit that the quality level set by the first posts is intimidating high. Anyway here goes my contribution for this week.

Birding in the Rain, and the sun
In reply to dongfanghong, Apr 29, 2012

This week's birding from Florida starts off with the inevitable as we get into summer season - weekends sometimes get rained out - it can be complete, whole day rain, or just passing showers or thunderstorms that catch you in the middle of your shoot, then break and leave. It was the latter that I had to deal with last weekend, but rain doesn't have to mean stop shooting! All shots A580 & Minolta 300mm F4 APO & 1.4x TC...

Least terns flying about in the pouring rain:

It doesn't stop them from fishing...in fact, they seemed more successful:

As the rain lightened, the terns kept fishing:

Then the rain broke, and I was able to find more birds getting out and about. Here, a purple martin was flitting about at full speed catching bugs:

Here, a limpkin was calling out loudly, while another limpkin hundreds of yards away was answering the call:

I spotted a least bittern sneaking his way through the reeds while fishing, and he didn't mind me pretty close by:

These rather adorable ducklings were dabbling along with momma, still wet with raindrops:

A purple gallinule did a litle tightrope walking down to the water:

Solitary sandpiper hanging out in the wetlands:

In the better light later in the day, I was able to get some closeups of the least terns flying around:

Quite the awesome subjects you have. Love the look of the parent bird, one I have never before seen.

Bees in my backyard
In reply to dongfanghong, Apr 29, 2012

We have a small beehive at backyard, our neighbour's beehive is twice as large. Today our neigbour's bees decided they need bigger room so there are hundreds (or thousands) bees flying around our bay leaf tree trying to make out their new house in a bird cage. Now my neighbour is trying to put those bees back, and here are some snapshots.
