[1 Image] Zion - 5dmkII and 17-40 mm
Apr 29, 2012

This shot was taken the other day during a short Zion excursion from my Vegas trip. It's an HDR image layered onto an original mid exposure image to minimize the HDR effect. The HDR image consisted of 4 separate exposures.

EXIF: 33mm f/11, ISO 100

I like the effect you got out of this, has the look of a painting. This is the type of image that sells easily if you are into selling your work because of the painterly effect and the vivid colours.

A magic place with the light you have captured.
The color of the rocks is very special at Zion
Well done.

It would be great to sell this. The trip cost $100 so a sell would probably cover that. It was national park week so admission was free, reducing my cost by $25.

Thanks. I'm glad the processing isn't tooooo unrealistic. At least I hope it isn't. It was a great evening, with a few sprinkles during the shoot. I find bad weather to be the best for landscapes though.

Thanks. Less is best. I've been criticized for exaggerating the effect before.

Haha...

Well, the only thing I had to worry about were tourists hiking around. Maybe they got eaten up though...LOL.

Yeah this was my first time there and I only had time for one shot, unfortunately. I'd like to hike the inner depths someday. Great place.

Very nice HDR work there!
In reply to proudfather, Apr 29, 2012

Besides being a great composition.
I will have to play around with HDR some more. I didn't like my first attempts.

What a wonderful image! It makes me think of some of my favorite landscape paintings from the masters. This is one of the best HDR images I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing it. --Henry W.

Last time I was in Zion I had an Apple Quicktake 100 640 x 480 camera. Yeah, it should have been enough, but I never thought so.

Gonna have to get back there with some more pixels.

Nice shot.
