The Sunday BIRD, Volume 7 Issue 47 April 29, 2012
Apr 28, 2012

Good Morning All,
I am in Sedona this weekend at a non-biding conference. Drat!
Wish I could get outside with my cameras!

Welcome, if you are new, the Sunday BIRD is a place for all bird photographers to show their photos, regardless of skill or camera brand. Ask questions or ask for critique and you will probably get several responses; we have many posters who like to help.

There are a few organizational guidelines to help the BIRD from becoming a confused mess. So:

Please post your photos first, a maximum of five, please , as a reply to this post before you comment on anyone else’s photos . IMPORTANT: please replace the Sunday BIRD title in the Subject window with one that describes your photos or they will be missed .)

After that, make any comments you wish on the photos already posted. But don’t put your photos inside a reply to someone else’s post, because others won’t see them.

Many photographers (especially newer ones) gain from knowing your EXIF data, especially: Camera, lenses, ISO, metering and focusing methods.

Cheers and Chirps,

Richard Pavek

Olympus E-30, Zuiko 50-200mm and EC-14 teleconverter

Swan and her cygnets on a local lake.

Red-tailed hawk -- caught in a cool old oak tree in the parking lot where I work. I imagine his thoughts: "Puny humans! I poop on your heads!"

Looks like the image-processing used on this site does some odd stuff to these photos... Live and learn...

Here are a few from this week's outing in the south Florida wetlands. Olympus E-30, 50-500mm Bigma, hand-held, ISO 400.

One of the more elusive birds down here are the Bitterns - American and Least Bitterns.

This is the first image of the Least Bittern I have been able to get in many months. 1/640, f/8.0, 313mm.

Another image of the same Least Bittern. 1/800, f/8.0, 449mm.

American Bittern. 1/800, f/8.0, 420mm.

Black-necked Stilt. Getting a good shot of the eye is extremely difficult. 1/2000, f/6.3, 449mm.

The beautiful but awkward Purple Gallinule. 1/2000, f/6.3, 500mm.

Here are a few more, all shot with the E-30 and the Bigma.

There are many, many nests here - Great Blue Herons, Tricolored Herons, Great, Cattle and Snowy Egrets, Green Herons, to name just a few.

Here is a Juvenile Tricolored Heron. 1/500, f/8.0, 246mm.

Looking into a Great Egret nest and the cute nestlings. 1/2000, f/6.3, 500mm.

Cattle Egret nestlings. 1/4000, f/6.3, 449mm.

Juvenile Green Heron. 1/400, f/7.1, 449mm.

Male Anhinga in Breeding Plumage. Note the emerald eye. 1/640, f/6.3, 449mm.

What do you mean by "odd"? I've been posting on this site for 5 years and haven't noticed any thing odd. The images posted look like they do on my calibrated monitor.

Dharma, nice series, especially the Goldfinch and the Robin. The Pied-billed Grebes are somewhat plentiful down here

Some prairie color
In reply to Richard Pavek, Apr 29, 2012

We've got lots of spring migrants arriving here in Saskatchewan now. All I need is for the rain to stop so that I can go out and photograph them. These are from last weekend. I had specifically gone out to look for Mountain Bluebirds and Western Meadowlarks, so it was nice to get shots of both. The Robin was just an added bonus.

All with E-620 + Bigma.

These photos come up well on my monitor. Love the Red Tail shot. I guess the blue over as a little over-saturated, but still okay.

Milt--these Bigmas are doing some nice work. A really good set. Like the Ahinga the best. Great to see the breeding plumage.

Nice shooting--the inevitable young one out of the nest. I hope it survives. Sometimes they do if there are not too many predators around.
