I would have expected a bigger response

No one here cares enough about what your family eats to actually grow any of your own food?

Its a dead forum day Edward. Go figure, when I am working on a dreaded project that I want to escape from no one wants to play

We dont have a very large yard, but we do have 4 dwarf lemon trees, a plum tree, a dwarf peach and an orange tree. I like to grow lots of tomatoes when they are in season as well.

no . . you were right of course . . . it's because "I don't care enough about what my family eats" to have hundreds of pots with growing vegetables in my loft, with all that entails. I believe boiled rocks and cement are all anyone needs for their nutritional needs. smile

The growing season up here in upstate NY is pretty short but I do manage some veggies for fun. Tomatoes, lettuce, peas, cucumbers, zucchini, corn, carrots, and garlic have all grown here. Herbs like catnip spread year to year.

I don't care about my family because I am a republican, so I don't grow my own food. This of course means we starve! If only someone would invent some type of store where all the foods could come together and be sold. Well, a man can dream, maybe someday.

Eating boiled rocks? In my concrete neighborhood we get stoned on liquid rocks. Difference in cultures I guess.

I have never grown anything edible.

You probably like Romney because he is familiar with the Mormon Storehouses that do exactly what you want. They are the best example of communism in America. Some have said they are supermarkets without a cash register.

We have trees which produce cherries, prunes, pears, olives, we also grow some tomatoes and strawberries, that's about it, besides the flowers for the house and some ornamental shrubs.

Bananas
Oranges
Mandarinas
Guayaba
Avacado
Sidjuela
Mora
Platano
Zapote
Various herbs

I don't grow veggies because they are too cheap to buy without the headache of growing them. I can buy a whole bushel basket of vegies for $4.

OH, the major benefit is I get fruit and veggies year around, not very seasonal. I get bananas and oranges year around. I start the day every day with a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice.

I used to have a garden where I grew lots of veggies for many years...tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, asparagus, cabbage, squashes, potatoes, radishes, brussel sprouts, spinach, peppers.

At my new house (1 1/2 mostly wooded acres in the same town) the deer (we get two to ten passing through every day) and groundhogs eat everything in sight so I am unable to have a garden without a big investment in fencing. My wife does have pots of various herbs around.

I also don't spend as much time outside as we have a near epidemic of Lyme disease here...the tiny ticks are in the bushes and lawns and the serious disease is sometimes hard to diagnose.
