E-M5 + m.Zuiko 75-300mm Image Stabilization - Handheld Video
Apr 19, 2012

Hi,

Here are a couple of videos taken with E-M5 and 75-300. All shot handheld. Image stabilization works pretty good.

Take a look:

E-M5 + m.Zuiko 75-300 at 100mm:

E-M5 + m.Zuiko 75-300 at 200mm:

For comparison, take a look at the video from E-P3:

E-P3 + m.Zuiko 75-300 at 300mm:

Do you notice any difference?

BTW, all shots were made without any support. If you can lean on something, results are much better.

Best regards,
John

thanks for posting, very interesting. Cant wait for my EM5 .

I believe your last video , the one not taken with the EM5 has something wrong, too wobbly, this can't be right. Perhaps you used youtube STABILIZATION or editing and they come up with weird behaviours . check it out.

Nothing wrong with it except that is how it looks like when you do it with E-P3. This was for comparison, so I didn't want to touch any of those.

BTW, 300mm (full frame equivalent: 600mm) is crazy long. Prior to E-M5, I would never try to shoot video handheld. IS is doing a great job.

I would imagine the E-M5 is going to turn the 75-300 into amuch more versatile stills lens as well. I've enjoyed mine through a series of Pens, from the E-PL1 to E-PL2 and, now, E-P3, but the much better high ISO performance of the E-M5 is a huge boost for this lens.

Yes, you are correct. You can use slower shutter speed and it is much easier to follow the subject.

Thanks!

If I locked my elbow on some table or pole, video would be much better.

I was surprised that shooting video at 300mm without heavy tripod was even possible. With E-M5... it is.

That is quite a large difference!
MF was very difficult to pinpoint on EP3 when using longer FL.!

I shot my 75-300 at full extension without support, using my P-3 the other day and was impressed. Though it looked--through that damned EVF---that I was shaking (I'd just climbed off my motorcycle, so it's likely I was...), the result was fine. Now, if I had my E-M5, I'd tell you more. Stay tuned.

If you used a monopod, virtually all motion might be eliminated.

Great stuff!

True. MF is much easier on E-M5. Also, it seems to me that Olympus applies some extra sharpening on E-M5 during MF. So, it is easier to nail the focus.
