7D and DPP 3.11.26, Anyone?
Apr 19, 2012

I've been playing around with the latest version of DPP (released yesterday) and have been really impressed with the new Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO). If you're shooting with a supported lens the results are really quite nice. Canon says DLO corrects several aspects of lens and sensor shortcomings (CA, AA filters, etc).

Try downloading the DPR studio shots and see for yourself. The images taken with cropped bodies using the EF 50/1.4 (supported by the DLO module) have a pixel level sharpness I've never seen using DPP in the past. Unfortunately, the FF body studio shots are using the EF 85/1.8 which is not currently on the list of supported lenses.

My guess is the list of supported lenses will grow over time, right now only four of mine are available.

Here's the ISO 100 studio shot from DPR , I simply opened it with DPP, selected the DLO tool, and set the tuning slider to 100%, saved the RAW, then converted to JPEG. Nothing else was done to the image. You'll need to view this at 100% to really appreciate the difference.

Im not sure what im supposed to be looking for but the image looks quite soft and a bit noisy to me.

To see the effect of the new tool you should post an image with it on and off, otherwise it doesn't show what its capable of.

Ive had this new version for a few weeks now (and prefer LR) but its nice to see DPP is still being improved.

The latest version 3.11.26? That's odd. Mine is version 3.11.4.10.

No, I don't.

But now that I have used it, I know this: it asks whether you want to save the settings. And if you do, you have doubled the size of the original. And with RAWs, that mounts up to more than 50MB for one shot.

I agree with you. My version is 3.11.4.10. I would assume that what we have is the newer version. It must be operating system dependent on the version.

And when you convert it to TIFF it is 120mb.

No, the latest version is 3.11.26.0 but Canon is dragging their feet getting it posted on the US website. I got my copy from the UK website.

No, the latest version is 3.11.26.0 but

Then they should have posted 3.11.4.10 as 3.11.04.10.

I wonder whether it is possible to install 3.11.4.10 back over 3.11.26...

Sure, just remove 3.11.26 then reinstall the older version assuming you have a copy.

There is also version 3.11.10.0. This was the first version to have HDR and the new Lens tool in it. Its the one that comes 9or came) with the 5DIII but wasn't released on the Canon website as it had issues with the 5DIII raw file lol.

I understand. I read what you had written, MisterPootieCat. But why would Canon backtrack on the numbering and use a lower sequence number? That is very confusing. I'm trying to understand what might have happened. I wonder if it came out of a different software group, or something, that didn't know about the 3.11.4.10 version. I believe you... but this is very strange.

I'm not seeing the same thing as you. 3.11.26 is a higher revision than 3.11.4, at least from all the years of messing around with various upgrades across more platforms than I can remember. 26 is a higher number than 4 isn't it?

I see the 500 and 600 F4 IS II is included in the DLO database. I really hope they add the mk1s as well. I'm betting they won't though.
