How big was the largest XPro1 print you've sold?
Apr 18, 2012

I have a friend who sells very large prints and is now getting ready to upgrade his camera. Thinking 5DmkIII and D800. Should he be looking at the XPro1. he does nor shoot anything in motion and prints 3'x2' and larger. He is not tied to any system lens-wise .

Many thanks

If I would be a large format print photographer, I would probably get the D800 and good lenses for it.

That said, my largest print so far was an inkjet DIN A3+ and the 16MPix resolution with the XF 35mm lens was very, very good. There would be no major detail advantage on a print from my 5D MK II at that size.

Cheers,

Enlargement should not be a problem, almost 2x3 meters!!:

Im verrrry picky about printing. I've only done a 8x12 so far but the quality was absolutely excellent. Very very sharp. I want to go bigger next. I think the files should enlarge well because there is a ridiculous amount of detail in them...the glass is sick.

I have a 5dMKII and I looooooooooooooove the camera though. Can't go wrong either way. They're very different devices.

for VERY large prints I would go for the D800 no doubt, a lot more headroom

I've sold plenty of large format prints from old Canon 10d (6mp).

The Xpro 1 will be just fine for large format prints.

Always be careful to have a quality file and pay attention to your post processing.

Many thanks all. I have passed on the info. and the link. The D800 and XPro1 are not available in India yet so I expect he may be borrowing my D700 some more until he has more options. I did suggest a maybe a 5DmkII since the mkIII is available and prices for the mkII are dropping.

He does not print his own but has them printed. I'm very happy withe the Epson Pro 3885 for my Nikons.

I have been selling 12x18 prints from jpg crops since it came out, the same size from X100. Have not tried to do anything like the semi trlr size wraps we do from the D700, but I bet they would hold up.

Although you can print this size with an XPRO 1, I'd go for the D800. With all the splendour of the Fuji, you can't compare it with a 36 MP FF camera especially for details rich prints. I guess that here, like many field in life, size matters.
