put a .jpg at the end of the links... I figured it was too large for the forum...

But Here it is... Who needs the high MPs of D800 when objects are this close...

Sweet images...

I've photographed several launches from the NASA Causeway and the Turn Basin, but do not have any images of the orbiter mounted on the 747.

Really nice composition on the 2nd one, too.

Thanks for posting.

Sad day. The shuttle, of course, needed to be retired. The design is from the 1970s. The problem is that there is no replacement, because the U.S. has lost the will to be bold. We should have SSTO by now. It's what life would be like if they just stopped making new camera models, and then retired the last camera. Of course, wars and bread and circuses and pensions are always bigger budget priorities than science. The states don't care about scientific research or space exploration. All the Americans care about is fast money and cheap amusements.

the .JPG needs to be in Capital letters, if you use Lower case, it will not work.
.jpg = bad
.JPG = Goodness

Thank you very much for the complements!
Much appreciated...

I truly feel very lucky to get any shots including the second one

First, Did not have my camera when I left the house this am. Heard the news on WTOP. Without hesitation, had to turn around on route 28 to make it home, grab the camera lens and hope that i make it in time.

Second, got a great parking spot on side of 28 (5 mins before the first fly over).

Third, had the error 80 between two fly overs. Did not panic! Powered off the camera, inserted new cf (yes i keep backup) and the camera was fine.

Last but not the least... If I didn't have the 5diii I would have not gotten the shot (fps helped here).

I plan to do a follow-up later to show my two opportunities I had this morning with capturing the moment ( along with more photos).

Shot all in av mode with 5diii and 70-200 2.8. IS. AI Servo

I have had the 5d iii for about 2 weeks now and loving every moment of it. Still got the 5d classic and the 5d ii and 7d. After two weeks with 5d iii I am seriously contemplating trading all this in for two more 5diiis. Hmm...

I am a little disappointed with the buffer of 5diii as it fills up fast. I can now see myself getting the 1dx in near future.

I'm just glad I was able to capture history in making.

Thank you once again!

The second shot with the T-38 does a great job of highlighting just how amazingly huge the SCA (747-100)+shuttle assembly is.

Although very historic, to me the most exciting moments I ever felt was the early days of the shuttle program when we all watched each launch and mission with that keen earnest innocence that promised an exciting future for mankind. I felt proud because we as a human race were boldly stepping outward from the gravitational bonds of our planet to explore what was beyond.

Perhaps this thread illustrates well what has been accomplished, the OP capturing this moment with a DSLR camera whose DNA has benefited greatly from all the technical advancements which were spawned out of necessity from the space program.
