Top 10 Minolta legacy lenses!
Apr 17, 2012

Minolta made a lot of good glass both AF and MF. Was wondering what the ultimate top 10 list of Minolta lenses would be. I have the Minolta 50mm f1.4 that should surely make the list, it's my fave legacy lens. I'm not very familiar with the entire product family. What's your Minolta top 10?

AF 28F2.8 very small and for me is my ideal focal length of 42mm (equivalent)
AF 50f1.7
AF 50f3.5 macro
AF 100-200 f4.5
Still looking for a reasonably-priced 24 or wider.

I suggest you look at the lens database at Dyxum.com.

I don't know what your favourite FL is, whether you like primes or zooms or how much you are prepared to spend but you can make a decision based on your needs and others' ratings. You need to be a bit aware that some folks are carried away by the cheapness of the lenses on the s/h market, though, when giving out their ratings.

Generally, G lenses are the best and if you can afford them, and don't mind the weight are the ones to go for.

The Minolta F2 series (28,35,100) would easy be among the top ten.

My other pick would be:
35mm 1.4
50mm 3.5 Macro
100mm 2.8 Macro
135mm STF
100-200mm f4.5 (small beercan)
28-105mm RS

Hahaha, good one. Maybe best walk-around zoom for FF? But it does have its issues.

My favorites, and the ones I own and carry with me from Florida to the Philippines and back, despite the weight (in order of, which one would be the last to go if I needed to sell):

(All a-mount)
10 - 50/1.4
9 - 50/3.5 macro
8 - 28-135/4-4.5
7 - 28-70/2.8 G
6 - 17-35/3.5 G
5 - 80-200/2.8 HS APO G
4 - 85/1.4 G (D)
3 - 200/2.8 HS APO G
2 - 135/2.8(4.5) STF
1 - 35/1.4

Well, what do you know, looks like I've got 10 total.

Still lust for the 300/2.8 and 400/4, but I can wait.

I have no Sony lenses, just an a850 and a700 and a couple of flashes.

Once you shoot 'G'....

Dittos on that brother. It's heavy and clunky but it sure does render nicely.

I am quite surprised that no one has mentioned the compact, lightweight and very sharp 100-300mm APO(D). I find that (when stopped down) it is unbeatable by anything even double its price.

Thank you!

I was just about to ask "Why no love for 100-330 APO?"

Great shots, the content and the colors are beautiful.

135 STF
100 mm Macro

500 mm Mirror - small light sharp and inexpensive - not G quality, but not G price
28-75 2.8 (Konica Minolta)
100-400 APO Nice lightweight telephoto zoom. Great Bokeh
Of course the G lenses, but I could never afford them.

He might have ment the 28-85 f3.l5-3.4 which is an amazingly good lens especially for the really great price on it.

I just picked one up for 90.00 but I haven't tested it yet except for a couple of snaps but Shazam! It sure is sharp!
