The Sunday BIRD, Volume 7 Issue 45, April 15, 2012
Apr 14, 2012

Good Morning All,

Welcome, if you are new, the Sunday BIRD is a place for all bird photographers to show their photos, regardless of skill or camera brand. Ask questions or ask for critique and you will probably get several responses; we have many posters who like to help.

There are a few organizational guidelines to help the BIRD from becoming a confused mess. So:

Please post your photos first, a maximum of five, please , as a reply to this post before you comment on anyone else’s photos . IMPORTANT: please replace the Sunday BIRD title in the Subject window with one that describes your photos or they will be missed .)

After that, make any comments you wish on the photos already posted. But don’t put your photos inside a reply to someone else’s post, because others won’t see them.

Many photographers (especially newer ones) gain from knowing your EXIF data, especially: Camera, lenses, ISO, metering and focusing methods.

Cheers and Chirps,

Richard Pavek

Nice all around,
The 'Panel" is a good capture, one that hardly ever works. This one did!

From South Florida
In reply to Richard Pavek, Apr 15, 2012

Here are a few from this past week in the wetlands of south Florida, captured with the Olympus E-30 and the Sigma 50-500mm Bigma, hand held. ISO 400.

Feeding time in the Great Blue Heron nest. Mama Papa and 2 fledglings. 1/2000, f/8.0, 149mm.

For this image of a Female Black-necked Stilt, I experimented by adding the EC-14 to the 50-500mm, making it a hand held 70-700mm. 1/1000, f/8.9, -0.3EV, 595mm.

Great Egret in the nest with nestlings. Also with the EC-14 attached. 1/400, f/8.0, 708mm.

Great Egret nestling, also at full zoom, 708mm. 1/640, f/8.9, -0.3EV.

Newly fledged Great Blue Heron on its second day trying to learn how to feed for itself. Mama was lurking nearby. 1/1600, f/7.1, 192mm.

That rig you put together is working well for you. Pretty hard to hld steady, I imagine.

The first G. Egret shot is my favorite today,

A Few Small and Medium Sized Birds
In reply to Richard Pavek, Apr 15, 2012

Hello,

Sharing some snaps of some small birds which always pose some amount of difficulty in snapping them. Here are some from India, some of them were taken early morning so are at a higher ISO(ISO800). All are taken with my E620 with the 135-400mm Mini Bigma. All are hand-held shots, jpegs straight out of the camera (most of them-only a few have been cropped and brightness/contrast adjustments have been made to some images).

Cs and Cs are awaited for the snaps. Thanks for watching and thanking you all in anticipation.Have a great week ahead.

Miromiro
In reply to Richard Pavek, Apr 15, 2012

Miromiro/Tomtits will often come down and check out passing hikers, very much like the New Zealand Toutouwai/Robin (to which they are related). Neither the NZ Tomtit or NZ Robin share any close ancestry with their European namesakes, the English names are just colonial improvisations.

These guys stalk the golf course where we have a holiday house, looking for any little rodents they can find. Fascinating watching them hover then dive for their prey.
