Your favorite Minolta lenses
Apr 8, 2012

After I bought my A77 I picked up a Minolta 100-200 lens on Ebay. Nice and small compared to my 70-400.
I have a 35-105 which is coming.

Do any of you have a favorite Minolta. I thought about the 70-210 but my other lenses cover the range.

I have several of the old Minolta lenses and use each one for different purpose so it is hard to decide which one is my favorite.

I guess I would pick from one of these:

16mm f/2.8
85mm f/1.4
100mm f/2.0
100mm f.2,8 macro
200mm f/2.8
28-135mm zoom
70-210mm f/4.0

What's one to do when asked to pick a favorite?

Minolta 35/1.4G RS

They can criticize it in the reviews all they want but this lens paints awesome pictures!

Minolta Maxxum 24-85: F3.5/4.5 - first lens that I bought for my Minolta Maxxum film camera (camera came with 50 F.1.7). Must have been about 15/20 years ago. That lens has been on every DSLR camera that I have ever owned and and has captured most of our family memories. Super solid - been everywhere from Death Valley to Paris. Never let me down. Still works great now.

It was that lens that kindled my A-mount passions.

Its an all-purpose All-Star

Got the 2.8/100 mm macro lens years ago, and it is the only minolta lens I have bothered to keep...

I had several Minolta lenses but sold most ones on. I only kept the 135mm f2.8. The other one I really liked was the 50mm f3.5 macro but sold it for a real macro lens.

Other ones I had were:
100-200mm f4.5 (a bit short but very compact)
70-210mm beercans (I favour the Sony 70-300mm G)
50mm f1.7 (good but not really useful on a APS-C)
28mm f2 (bought it for the price of f2.8 and sold it for a f2)

I had the 35-105mm. lens(beer can) but sold it when I got my 28-135mm. lens. Both are great lenses. The 28mm. is a little more versitle.

Person is taking photos, not camera. When photograph is bad, it's because photographer doesn't know how to choose settings optimal to "own preferences". Then blames camera for bad IQ.
This is same as blaming car about arriving to wrong destination.

At the moment the 35-105 beer can, it is so sharp and the colors are great.

I have brought and sold some 20 minolta lenses over the last 6 months looking for good ones. It seems any of the beer can editions are good performers.

I also have-

75-300 4.5- 5.6II I have tried most of the 75 to 300 (not Beer Can) this stands out maybe I have a good one.
50mm 1.7 good for indoors

I would love to try a 28-135 but not enough $ in my bank
