I know what’s real. The second shot raises my blood pressure; it must be real.

AF-ON v. Shutter release. Separating exposure from shutter release is so elegant and precise and professional I've been doing it for years, on Canon, Fuji X-100 and Nikon. But once I decided to let the camera select AF, it became pointless. So last week I switched to allowing the shutter release to do AF. Marvelous. I can shoot faster and I can now shoot with one hand when I want to. I was so busy being elegant and professional, I never noticed that my thumb is a little short to reach the AF button on the D3s and had to do a slight stretch.

And what’s more… from now on you can start using AE Lock button.

I just bought me the Magic Drainpipe Mark III ... for me that is Mark III

You see, twice before I bought one and sold it again, but I keep coming back to the "ole pipe".

Have you painted it black yet?

It is good to see you back, Peter. I hope everything is fine with you, your family and your work.

Do you, by any chance, know what happened with WSP? The last thread seems to have vanished altogether.

Here is a pick I took with it yesterday:

Like a bird on a wire...

Date/Time 14-Apr-2012 13:13:50
Make Canon
Model Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Flash Used No
Focal Length 200 mm
Exposure Time 1/2500 sec
Aperture f/2.8
ISO Equivalent 400

Zubu,

We all know that art collectors and museums pay you for your knowledge of pigments in restoring art works, and that you make your own pigments. So one guesses you have some knowledge of color.

Would you mind saying a word or two about how you decided to color, your use of HSL in processing this photo?

Ethnicity, and color
In reply to Zubu Barunda, Apr 23, 2012

I suggested to my Korean Goddaughter that this young lady must be Korean. She demurred and opined that she must be Japanese. That's clearly not right, so we had extensive discussions at Easter dinner. My son's theory, that she must be SE Asian, Vietnamese or Thai. We finally decided on Cambodian as most likely. She does look a little like the faces from Angkor Wat. Besides, I told my goddaughter, if she were Korean, her clothes would be more expensive looking.

Could you clarify what that is, a color cast, colors breaking up?

But it wouldn't do anything.

AE Lock only works with spot, or center-weighted metering. I use 3D color matrix II, which is not that localized.

lovely moment, indeed reminiscent of some of peter's photos. a very classic-feeling street shot.

i think if you crop down a bit closer to the top of the boy's head, the poles sprouting behind him become less obtrusive.

Re: some cute kid shots
In reply to dagith, Apr 24, 2012

the first one works best, i think. the composition of the two heads forms an interesting relationship. it could probably be lightened up a bit.

dagith, your pictures will be easier for people to see and comment on if you post them in reply to the first entry in the thread. the way you posted here, it looks like it is a reply to fad's figure skater picture.
