Thank you. That was one of the best impressions posting you guys have done. Good balance between talking about the functions and your perspective on how it is to shoot with the camera. Mine should arrive tomorrow or Thursday and I should have a good block of time this weekend to go out and give it a whirl.

A very good first impression. I liked that you pointed out the weaknesses. I am quite sure Fuji will continue working on this. The fact that they are making so good new lenses is giving them a good potential for future cameras.

David over on Soundimageplus
In reply to Amadou Diallo, Apr 4, 2012

I'm a bit confused reading this generally positive dpreview preview, having read some fairly scathing points over on the soundimageplus blog - I tried to leave a comment in that blog but was prevented (apparently, only 'team members' are allowed to comment).

Here's my message to David over there...

"David, you're beginning to sound like a grumpy old man wrt the X-Pro 1... are you honestly having buyer's remorse?

I haven't committed either way, but I'm still seriously considering the X-Pro 1 and appreciate your honest critique - but there's quite a contrast between your views and those of the dpreview preview."

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian

But he loves the image quality. If I had not already bought the camera I would be out there like a shot to get one based on his comments on the IQ and the DPR preview, which seems to me a little more balanced with regard to the handling etc.

Thanks Lee, but 85 shots per battery charge seems dismal... I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the dpreview preview if true.

Cheers

I remember the time, not that long ago (8 years in my case), where 36 was about it, then you changed a roll.

It´s rated at 300 shots CIPA, still not that much, for what it´s worth. So far it managed to hold out a whole day, but I didn't shoot that much on a single day yet. However, in the beginning, playing with it a lot... I´ll carry two additional ones to be sure, that´s all, not a big deal.

Not true for me. I went out and filled 2x2GB cards at the weekend shooting RAW+F and still had juice for some in-camera processing afterwards.

On another occasion, took 120 JPGs in one day but not sure how much more it could have taken as I re-charged the battery anyway as I only have one at the moment, but I suspect a fair few.

Using mostly OVF with some review on LCD.

I have known other cameras much worse in this regard.

I think the overall tone of this preview is lightly "fanboyish" and not as objective as the dp-reviews texts usually are.

Also, how can dpreview miss to mention that the viewfinder is worse than the x100. Smaller, dimmer and you have to really press you eye against the cup to get i full view?
And nothing about the lack of diopter adjustment.

Maybe the camera deserves it? They bashed the x100 because of its faults, they bashed the x10 because of its faults. The then bashed fuji because the x10 firmware updated was useless. So they probably really like the X-Pro 1.

As for the viewfinder being to small that's nonsense. Any crop dslr body has a smaller viewfinder then the X-Pro 1 has. Never saw people complaining about that.

Fair enough.

For the viewfinder, i dit not say it was useless. Its just that i think that many people interested in this camera see the wf as a key feature and to not make any remarks about is not informing too much.

I think you can get slightly disapointed when you try the x-pro1 if you are coming from a x100.

It's completely not true. Having spent the last week with the camera, the only way someone is only getting 85 shots is if the battery was not charged to 100%, or continuously running the EVF and AF for hours between taking pictures.

There are several ways and it may depend on the browser to you using.

If using Windows, usually if you keep clicking on an image it will eventually display at full size. Then right click and choose Save image from the popup menu.

I stopped reading when he praised the NEX7 focus as always locking. 1)It doesn't always lock 2)It will confirm focus for something that is obviously out of focus on the LCD.
