Olympus has updated rebate qualifications...

posted on mu-43 forum from an email Amin Sabet got from Olympus:

Get a Free Adaptor or Flash

We've simplified the requirements of this offer for our pre-order customers.

Despite the language found on your rebate form, as long as you order your accessory before your E-M5 ships in April, you do not need to have the E-M5 and the accessory on the same receipt. Both items, however, do need to be purchased from the same store.

It would appear they are attempting to prevent the sitting on many vendors preorder lists in mandating one orders the free item before the camera ships.

It does. The one in the rebate offer is a bit better though and can be used wirelessly together with the small included flash.

It does come with the clip-on flash included.

Olympus US is currently offering an additional free FL-300R flash (or OM or Four Thirds adapter) for early purchasers. It's a nice way of getting to play with the camera's ability to use the clip-on flash to remotely control off-board flashes.

Oh great, Amazon (not 3rd party) does not even have it in stock. I have my EM-5 pre-ordered through Amazon.

Amazon does have the adapter available for preorder, so you could get that free then sell it if you don't need it.

Thanks. Is there any info on the clip-on flash somewhere ( guide no.)? Per Oly site it is mode FL-LM2, but this isn't available for any info on Oly's site or eg. B+H.

Ie.. can you buy this flash (eg. if one breaks) ?

Saw on Olympus site that there's also a bundle option for 40-150 (half price when bought with OM-D). Probably old news..

What about the 40-150?
In reply to Isabel Cutler, Mar 30, 2012

I am clear on how the pre-order rebate programs works for the choice of one of two adaptors or the FL-300.

I am NOT clear on how to obtain the discounted 40-150mm lens. Is that something where I have to buy the camera and lens from Olympus? Or am i able to say buy an FL-300, EM-5, and 40-150 all from say...B&H or Amazon and somehow still get the half off discount on the 40-150? It doesn't seem clear to me.

From what I understand, the $149.99 40-150mm lens deal is only if you order through Olympusamerica.com.

Lori, the $150 off is now showing on B&H website.
In reply to lsrmz, Mar 30, 2012

If you buy the E-M5 kit, you can get the 40-150mm lens for $149 at the same time!

I couldn't find the discount on the B&H web site. I even added both items to my cart and it was still $999.99 + $299.99 = $1,299.98.

"Buy Together & Save" for each item only shows the $50 off LR4 promotion. Then, of course, there's also the free accessory with E-M5 purchase but no $150 off the M.Zuiko 40-150mm that I could see.

Can you explain for us how to get the $150 off to show?

I believe I caused the revision to the B&H Website
In reply to AllBrands, Mar 30, 2012

I had to make my camera ordering decision today and chatted with both B&H and Olympus this morning. Around 9 am CST the B&H website did not have the $150 40-150mm lens offer. I inquired about it thru webchat and was basically told by B&H and by the Olympus sales rep that the offer was only for purchase through Olympus America's store.

So at that point it looked like I was buying direct. Unfortunately, there was one element I wasn't sure of that changed this plan...buying from Olympus America requires that sales tax is collected. With everything else being the same price, this swung the deal to only a $20 discount on a 40-150mm lens. I wanted to buy it at $150....not $280. So I went back to B&H.

Then B&H made my day! "Magically" now (about 1-2 hours later) when I pulled up the Silver body 12-50 combo, the exact same lens deal appeared where the Photoshop/Lightroom whatever discount deal had been before. If you can't find the offer when selecting body only, try the one with the kit lens and see if it shows up then.

I am so happy that I got the deal I wanted...despite spending about $2,000 (this is a lot for me ok...)....I'm feeling like I have good value in the 12-50 discounted because of inclusion in the kit, the 40-150 discounted for bundled purchase, and the rebate on the FL-300 (wasn't sure really which accessory to get...)...plus I ordered the very affordable 45mm prime.

Plus...the $150 deal on the 40-150mm expires tomorrow. I will post it seperately to make sure folks are aware of it.

I'm afraid that won't happen (at least not in Germany)...
