Woah! If this is right, I'm sticking with my 5DII bodies!

moire is so sensitive to detail size vs sensor pitch...
In reply to Mikael Risedal, Mar 26, 2012

that you need way more examples to conclude anything.

This example may just show that the higher pixel pitch of th 5DIII interfere more with the details than the 5DII.

...is no reason to "upgrade" to the 5Diii at this setting.

The two are very, very close. Forced to choose I think the 5Dii pic looks ever so extremely slightly better but it could just be at a random point in the picture I zoomed in on.

Clock face, which is which?
In reply to Mikael Risedal, Mar 26, 2012

The right hand side crop is crisper. About equal detail.

Not sure how anyone can tell anything about detail without knowing focus details... OOF (even slightly) portions of the image wont' show any increase in detail. Especially when pixel peeping an area well off center of the lens where it would perform best.

Agree. That is the first thing I noticed--that the bricks and the clock actually looked a bit sharper in the 5DII sample. Not looking for a flame war here, just a truly objective opinion. Then I saw the moire in the blinds--this was all before I noticed which camera was which, so there is no emotional baggage coloring my perceptions.

Could you process the MIII photo with he new DLO feature and compare that too? Maybe its better then.

I have 2 5dmk2 in my work and I find the new camera improved in many ways.
Both cameras handle the same way regarding shooting and in CR.

No reason to upgrade for landscape/portrait.

+1. Certainly not for a $1,000 to $1,500 price bump! But some nice improvements for those shooting action.

just keep telling yourself that guys...

I have 7d, 5d2 and 5d3 for almost a week now

and both 7d and 5d2 have never left the camera bag..

in real life the 5d3 is simply better in every category...

but like the 5d to 5d2 upgrade was never accepted by many then this too will occur here

would only have changed your opinions if something incredible had happened like 45mp...something you guys can hang your hook on more than just viewing other people's photos...

I'm very happy !

Congats! I'd love to get my hands on a 5DIII!

Been using a couple of 5DII cameras since they came out and they are truly groundbreaking. Tough act to follow. I think everyone just expected another revolution instead of an evolution.

Resolution wise, it is difficult to see any difference except the difference in moire

5D2 looks a bit sharper...
In reply to Mikael Risedal, Mar 26, 2012

to my eyes...so wouldn't that mean it has a weaker AA filter in the 5D2?

I didn't expect any difference in resolution..just expected the results to 'look' better through a combination of better sensor, new electronics and great AF.. which I definitely got.

What I didn't expect was much better colour...as I didn't think there was much wrong with my profiled 5d2... but actually there is a significant improvement between my 5d2 and my 5d3 beyond a side by side comparison..it's just obvious...even my wife spotted it and keeps asking what I've done to improve my photos...I haven't told here it's a new camera!

Post some samples. I would love to see color and dynamic differences. The resolution we know is the same. Make my mind up, I cant decide.

The reasons to upgrade are not resolution
In reply to Mikael Risedal, Mar 26, 2012

They are frame rate and focusing points, to name but a few. If it ever gets here, my 5DIII will complement my 5DII and 1DIII as well.
