D800's on Ebay
Mar 21, 2012

I see that D800's are starting to showing up on Ebay. Are they worth a $1000 premium?

I see one for $3919. The guy says he decided to sell it instead for personal and financial reasons of keeping it.

Only the one from Japan has it in hand. All the rest are counting on their preorders to come in. Like selling wine futures?

Just checked completed auctions. One in Miami, Florida and one in San Jose, CA. Both sold for just under $4,000.

Incorrect: "...D800's are starting to showing up on Ebay"

Correct: "...D800s are starting to showing up on Ebay"

It's a losing battle.....

My goodness. $1000 over retail. Must have been bought by docs and dentists posting on this forum.

Debateable
In reply to Karl Burke, Mar 21, 2012

Using apostrophe-s is appropriate for the plural form of numbers and abbreviations. Granted, D800 is neither a number or an abbreviation, but the use here is valid as a tool the writer can use to alleviate any potential confusion.

The pining around these parts for the theoretical D800s (as in D3 vs D3s) renders the use of "D800's" perfect valid.

All in my opinion, of course. I ain't no grammarian or anythin'.

Certainly not. They're probably coming from "Taiwan" or "Macau", with no warranty and no certainty of what parts have been retained or replaced.

Just have some patience.

How many photographers without D800s or D800es does it take to figure out how to use an apostrophe?

If someone is willing to pay the premium, then it is worth it to that person

Hmmm.. I knew about the D800 and the D800E, now we also have the D800s - no wonder they ask a premium for those, probably the D800 with extend buffer and 8fps and integrated coffee machine ;-)))))

Just canceled my D800 preorder and wait for the D800s

What some don't realize is e-bay is world wide. A 1K premium to you is a no premium to someone else in another Country who's dollar is better that our.

Take the UK for example. They could pay the 1K premium here and still be better off than buying in the UK with VAT and a stronger Pound to dollar.

PLUS the biggie, they get something then need next day whereas they can shop around and call a dozen local dealers that all start laughing and say things like, ya, right get in line buddy.

Then you have people that 1K is about what they spend on lunch or a bottle of wine.

Lastly you have the pro who absolutely could use 36 tomorrow for a high paying job and will make that 1K back in an afternoon.

I totally understand paying a premium.
