Let me think. We got a new president that promised hope and change. He kept he same Defense Secretary. He kept the same Chairman of the Fed. He continued the Patriot Act and is trying to get us into even more wars.

He made enough changes that the job situation has drastically improved and the stock markets have more than doubled from the freefall left by Bush.

That Mr. Bush handpicked Karzai?

Bush is ancient history. Obama is the man these days and for the last several years. He is the one who went gung-ho, Rambo, wild & crazy in Afghanistan.

This little detail seems to escape you...

And who would care about Karzai if there wasn't a big, damn mess going on over there that NATO is up to its eyeballs in because Obama insisted it was The War that he wanted to fight? You guys in America elected him knowing full well that he was going to go full bore into Afghanistan. He said it over and over during the campaign a few years ago. Well, you got what you wanted.

As well all know, what happened in the past is not only irrelvant to the future, but probably didn't happen anyway. I'm relieved you didn't mention 9/11, because of course that too is irrevelant. I'm surpirsed you don't start a thread called. "Why teach history in schools? Who needs it?"

We are still in a freefall. The stock market is in an artificial bubble due to the free money from the fed. No real jobs are being created and gas is taking off again in price.

If he wanted to make real changes, end derivatives, naked trading and the Fed. Of course he will not, since that would hurt his buddies but help us.

Obama has serious daddy issues, I think. He and his gang

Would this be the gang that you, the American people democratically voted into power?

turned a low-level, not so big war into a huge, stinking, pile of crap and now what is going to happen? Canadians have lost 158 and the Americans many, many more. The coalition in total has lost 2845. Many, many more Afghans have been killed. Just to impress and outdo daddy.

He got us out of Iraq and he refused to get involved with boots on the ground in Libya. Your statement is contrary to the facts.

We were scheduled to leave Iraq at that time anyways. He did get us involved in Libya and is itching for Syria, Iran, Yemen and Uganda. Forgive me if I missed any.

I should point out that Canadians and Europeans loved Obama too and some still get wet in their private places over him. They also got what they wanted. A big, damn, stinking, messy war in Afghanistan. Man, he said right up front what he was going to do and then did it.

...the Defense Dept or two politicians?

The Defense Dept's report said that "overall insurgent attacks declined in 2011 for the first time in five years."

Note the difference: I wrote "loved" and you wrote "love" -- a difference in tense. Yes, Canadians and Europeans loved, loved, loved with a passion Obama in 2008. In Canada we even had people wanting to go to the U.S. to vote illegally for Obama.

Isn't Feinstein one of Obama's buddies in the same party?

My point is that the handwriting is on the wall, the US is getting out, sooner rather than later. With bin Laden gone and Al Qaeda weakened the Taliban can have that pile of rocks as far as most Americans are concerned.

bin Laden went to Afghanistan, he was at Tora Bora and we thought he was hiding in the border region directing Al Qaeda.

I have the feeling you have a different theory.

Infighting on Obama team squandered chance for peace in Afghanistan

They gave Obama the Nobel Peace prize. The Nobel committee and all those who fawned over him looked stupid and ridiculous 3.5 years ago. Now they look like sh!t-for-brains ignoramuses.

Re: Why did Obama insist on making Afghanistan a big war?
In reply to yanisha, Jun 25, 2012

Great post!!....only problem is you spelled the names wrong...why?

It was BUSH that started BOTH wars in order to prove to HIS DADDY that he wasn't a coward when he RAN AWAY away from HIS WAR ...Viet Nam!

yanisha wrote:

I just don't get it. Bush sent a relatively small number of the U.S military into Afghanistan along with military from other UN members with the intention of routing al Qaeda there. Done. After that was accomplished they stayed, but it was a backburner war with few casualties just trying to keep al Qaeda from reestablishing themselves there. Obama, maybe for psychological reasons related to growing up without his father, had to somehow prove that he was a macho guy so he insisted that Afghanistan must be a full-blown war with lots of killing, blood, hate, terror, misery and he was the guy to make it so. Well, he did. With the cheering of his party and his partisans right there with him. He dramatically increased the number of military there and turned the war level up several notches. What a mess. How could Obama be so ignorant of history? Afghanistan is known as the Graveyard of Empires. Didn't he and his advisers know anything about the Muslim sensibilities there? Didn't they know anything about the savage tribalism there? Didn't they know any history? Didn't they know the experience of the Soviets there? They just rushed in without thinking in order to prove their manhood and so that Obama could impress and outdo his dead father.

Iraq was a mess, but fortunately the U.S. is out of there. Bush got America in, but he also got America out with the negotiated withdrawal he did before leaving office. Bush may have made a big mistake in going into Iraq, but he didn't have recent history screaming right in his face making it clear that he shouldn't do it. Obama after being against Iraq and seeing what a mess it became and with the Iraq experience screaming, screeching, clawing right in his face then perversely and inexplicably decided to turn Afghanistan into something similar or even worse. You've got to question the IQ and mental stability of someone like that, I think.

By the time these wars are over the only countries the Americans are going to invade are little islands like Grenada. We are plumb broke!
