Early Spring in my yard (4 imgs)
Mar 2, 2012

I'm hoping we are moving towards Spring. Usually, the Pacific NW has some nice weather the end of February that gets everyone's gardening juices flowing, and then it gets cold and wet again. This year, however, we had nice weather in January, and February was cold and wet, with periods of snow. Taken with E510 and 70-300 or 14-54.

Crocus

Snowdrops

Another early rhododendron, Tessa Bianca

Confused rhododendron, Lem's 121, which usually blooms in April, but sometimes throws a few blooms earlier.

Snow photos in reply.

Snow on rhododendron Seta

Moss fruiting bodies with snow behind

We had just a dusting of snow on Monday and Wednesday, but elevations around 1000 ft had 4 to 5 inches.

You have a nice set of pictures there, snow and all.

We have not had a hot summer as in previous years.
Suits me fine. I did not have to water the garden week after week after week.

Good to see these Lois Ann; they insipire confidence that spring is indeed on the way north to me from your southern banana belt.

It's amazing to see your early rhody; I have only one early azalea showing any sign of activity -- blooms soon, I hope. Maybe I can get over to the big rhody garden on Hood Canal next week with my C-8080 and have some echo shots to your pix.

I liked seeing your blooming moss. Some on our patio has looked like that, but not this early in the season. I think if you PPed that shot a lot darker to obscure some of the background features, it could look very dramatic with those glistening water droplets.

Any blooms over at Lake Sac yet?

Beautiful, Lois. No flowers here yet, that I've noticed. I have seen some leaves poking through the ground, so it may not be too long.

Very nice, Lois Ann - especially the crocus.

My dad says it's 82º in SC & the azaleas & dogwoods are trying to bloom. Unfortunately it's just a false start to spring - forecast to be 31º next week.

That's nice to see your colorful pictures. I'm also looking forward to seeing these pretty flowers this spring. The crocus flowers are just starting to appear in our area too.

Thanks, Henry. We had a cool summer last year and I didn't have to watery rhododendrons until much later than usual. I didn't mind either.

Zin, I was in Portland yesterday and it has been warmer there than here. My daughter and I took a walk around her neighborhood and one yard had a blooming Seta, the one in the photo with the snow. Also lots of crocuses and daffodils. I have crocuses but no daffodils blooming yet.

Do you mean Meerkerk gardens or another place?

I will try PPing the moss again at your suggestion.

One rhody was blooming at Lake S the last time I was there. I will be driving by there tomorrow and will check it out.

Thanks, Henry. It's interesting how much later the crocuses are in your area. You aren't that much further North, so I guess it has to do with us being in a banana belt with ocean influence.

It's good to hear from you, George, and see you on the forum. Today is rainy an dark, with a chance of snow showers in the hills. Spring is capricious.

Thanks, Jan. It was supposed to be 71 today in ABQ where my older daughter lives, then possibly snow later in the week. Ah, Spring! We had a coating of powdered sugar snow here this morning.
