Candids w/E 50mm
Mar 2, 2012

I was asked to get some real world shots with my new E-mount 50mm f/1.8. I noticed that in Aperture mode, I had set the aperture to wide open but the setting had inadvertently moved, due to the position of the rotary dial

These were shot Raw, Center Focus w/re-framing or by touch AF on subject. Mind you, on some I was on a moving train.

Sharp, accurate color & WB (always tricky when dealing with subway lighting) and rich deep contrast. All equals one fine street lens - especially in your hands DS.

What would you use for a wider filed of view? I've found that 28mm (on my D700) is well proportioned for NYC subway cars and platforms.

I waited a bit for mine. It's worth the wait.

Thanks Joe. That's why I went with Raw so I could tweak WB if needed. At times, I actually wished the focal length was a little longer because I had to get closer to the subject. With the flip LCD screen & flipping it up, it's very "stealthy". They didn't notice that I was photographing them

As for a wider & fast lens, I don't have one for the NEX. The 18-55mm lens suits just fine for that right now. The NEX version of the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 is sweet but priced too high.

Curious, do you think this set would look best in B&W?

I can tell that you are good photographer, so nice to see a lens test done by a person who clearly understand what and how to show during the process of obtaining pleasure from the new lens.
Nothing more nothing less- it's a great lens in a right hands!!!
Thanks a lot, and don't stop!:)))

I'd surely check these out in B&W.

For me, 'street snaps' are about face & attitude - color adds its own 'weight' to an image.

I'm pretty sure I read in the manual that you can lock the 3-dials by holding the navigation button for a couple seconds.

Actually, it would be better if they were shot wide open at f1.7 and if i were closer to the subject

Still you are the first to show the bokeh as up till now I couldn't understand why buy it when the kit is so good in low light. Would love to walk around New York like you. Stay warm.

You are pretty much my favorite photographer on this site. Tons of real-world stuff in a broad range of environments and lighting conditions, and you make it all look great. Just excellent.
