Thanks, I had the same experience. I did bring a 5DmkII and 1DmkIII to the NPS show to compare size, grip, viewfinder and autofocus.

AF was the big difference. The D4 and D800 were able to lock in much darker situations than the Canon 5DmkII and 1DmkIII.

Hi, yes was a good event.

To be fair I have always thought the D3 was better than the 5D 1D.. for AF in general. D3's AF is great and the improvements will make it even better from what I saw.

I think you are wrong on this one statement:

"The grip is actually priced the same as the D700′s was at release time, they full expect the price to creep down as it did before after a few months."

The MB-D10 grip that fits the D700 was released for the D300 and it was not as expensive as the MB-D12 that fits the D800. I know, I bought one. By the time you added the EN-EL4A battery, the BL-3 battery chamber cover and the charger for the battery it was a substantial purchase. But, you have to add the battery and the charger for the D800 too. I hope Nikon reconsiders the price for the MB-D12.

Some Simple Advice
In reply to Richard Costin, Feb 19, 2012

Fix all the spelling and grammar errors. Honestly, it's very disconcerting to read your blog and find so many poorly constructed sentences and misspellings - makes me wonder how much I can trust your technical acumen if I can't trust your ability to write proper English. I would advise you to let someone proofread the material before posting to the web for global distribution.
Hope this helps.

Just a thought.

Nice photos, indeed. Especially the wildlife pics.
The D800 article, however, is still written poorly. Apparently you don't care.
Whatever.

I think he was trying to give you constructive feedback.

I agree that it is important to have strong communication skills, particularly when forming and presenting an argument or position.

You posted what you termed as a "preview" for the world to see. I assume you are trying to add some value to information out there on the D800. He tries to give you constructive criticism (with which I agree) and you get your panties in a bunch.

Normally, a person would thank them for taking the time to try to make their presentation more professional.

If you were giving a presentation and right before you went on someone told you that your zipper was open, would you say "judge me by my slides" or would you thank them?

Telling me (and those reading here) my opinions are not to be trusted is not constructive.

A better analogy would be if someone shouted from the audience that my flies are undone and therefore I am probably talking BS. It's often not what you say but how and where.

I love how on this camera (gear) forum, people seem more concerned with my punctuation than the content of the post. If I were on a literary writing forum maybe, but you can point it out without being rude.

Peace..
Rich.

Whether Funnelwebmaster's criticisms were well-intended or not, I don't know. What I do know is that I greatly appreciate you quickly getting your impressions of the D800 before our eyes. I find your comments quite valuable -- I read your post for information, and I wasn't disappointed. I'm less concerned about how polished your editing is and whether it's ready to be published in a glossy magazine somewhere.

Thanks to you for helping all of us. Much appreciated.

Nice review.

I have worked for 5 top US corporations as program engineer/manager for 35 years and my spelling and grammar are sub-par.

I think that we should all start posting in twitter-speak on DPR as that will drive the English majors away....

Definitely, I already preordered a D800, and reading hands on/first impressions like this is great
