X-S1 24mm - 624mm
Feb 12, 2012

The flight I was meeting is late so I've got a bit of time to kill. I thought I would demonstrate the cameras zoom. Shot at 12MP hand held, the IS seems to work OK.

Not too shabby in my book.

Paul.

What bug?

I'm looking forward to spring it's bloody freezing here. I couldn't persuade this kid to get off the ice, guess he will have to learn the hard way. I told him I'm not jumping in after him if he goes through.

that bug!!!

Youthful ignorance...or stupidity....wow.

I'm also thinking of some springtime, today --even in Texas--- we have a winter advisory and a chance for ice pellets.

stay warm

We had frozen rain this morning, not hail but frozen rain, had to drive 120 miles in it.

Looks pretty sharp to me. I'm sure my HS10 wouldn't have this much detail or sharpness at full zoom. If the would only fix the lens sag, this cam would be a serious contender for my next bridge-cam. Writing to see the HS30 before I mare up my mind.

Have you tested the movie mode on the XS1?

Seen the jello effect ar full zoom?

The scene at 24mm sooc, the crow is in the middle of the frame.

100% crop of the 624mm shot sooc taken from the same position.

Yes, the zoom is pretty amazing, and I even had the HS20 before, which was even longer! Nice demonstration, Paul.

And, btw: I also hate THAT bug!!

Cheers,
Kurt

Impressive! You can get more detail had you taken this in RAW.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but these look like very average p&s pics to me. Probably because they're ooc jpgs.

I'd love to see what this cam can produce in RAW files from someone with pp chops. :).

The 100% SOOC looks pretty nice to me, for a smallish sensor. As we get some PPd and RAW conversions, we'll see the upper limits.

Hi Paul - am trying to make up my mind between the X-S1 and the HS30. Quite a price difference. Am looking to use for sports/action photo, so things like shutter lag and focus speed are important. Can you comment?

I also treasure low light capability, so Im assuming the larger sensor/less pixels of the X-S1 over the HS30 will contribute to sharper & less noisy photos in low light.

Where did you purchase? All the major names dont have in stock yet. ebay is only place I can find.

Thanks
Dave in NC
