Landscapes with the WATE on the NEX7
Jan 19, 2012

Ho Hum

I guess these would actually have been better on an M9! But the NEX7 does a good job, and the WATE is always up to any task! It makes a lovely smalll package, and with the Hawks factory adapter it focuses down to about 6 inches!

I like the 2nd one, and especially the last one. Doggie gives good focal point.

I sold most of my Nikon gear (D3x plus tons of great Nikkor and Zeiss glass), because I'm so happy with the A77 plus Zeiss lenses (and one, dare I say it, Sigma ), and the Nex 7 plus Leica glass.

I've been a little worried, in making this swap, that maybe later I'll regret tossing such a great Nikon / Zeiss system. But no longer. Now that I see what Leica lenses can do on the Nex 7, on top of what Zeiss does on the A77 (plus that wonderful 70-400mm G lens), I think my worries are over.

My new system is a quarter the weight and a tenth the size of my old Nikon system. Just what I'd been hoping for as I move towards 70.

Hawks Factory Adapter?
In reply to Jono Slack, Jan 20, 2012

I've now read about this and want one, but there only seem to be ones from China that do not say "Hawks Factory". Do you know if they are knockoffs? Are they any good?

Any problems with colour shift in the corners? If yes, how did you cope with it? CornerFix?

Jono, excellent shots as usual.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind which camera you are using, I have seen too many captivating shots from you with Kodak, Nikon, Sony and Leica, and probably a few more.

The first b/w shot is my favorite in this series, especially the composition and tonality. Full of elements but no feeling of being busy at all.

The last one is also very nice, wow, what if the dog points his/her head to us.

Thanks for sharing!

Best,

Choi

Hi Bob

I don't think there's anything 'not to like'. There are some things I would like:
1.minimum shutter speed and maximum ISO higher than 1600 in auto-iso settings
2.programmable video button (or at least switch offable).
come to mind, but I'm sure there are others.

But it's a likeable camera - sorry you're having to wait!

Hi Paul

It's a while since I moved away from Nikon to Sony (when the A900 appeared) , but certainly, unless you want very big telephotos/zooms, I think that the Sony system gives lots of advantages - still loving my A77 as well.

the ebay name is hawks-factory - they come and go, and they are made in Taiwan, but they seem to be nicely made.
Keep Looking!

Hi there

not a problem with the WATE - or at least, if it's there it's so minimal as not to be a bother. I think that the WATE is actually a fairly retrofocal lens, and they seem to cause less issues.

Cornerfix is really good . . . but I'm really lazy, and in the end I don't use lenses which cause issues.

Jono, the third one is almost tri-dimensional. A fine capture.

Jono I really like that last one....great shot. I've wanted to get my hands on a WATE to pair up with my M8, but that damn 50mm Summilux keeps calling my name...
