I like the square format. Unfortunately this is not the original format.

I know, right? Always wanted a Leica body with a square frame...

The funny thing is, for many years I had love-hate relationships with art directors who, in turn, had love-hate relationships with my square pictures. Last year I decided to clean up my act and submitted nine uncropped Leica M9 shots for the JTI/Sobranie ad campaign. Next day an art director is exploding on the phone "WE THOUGHT YOU WOULD SHOOT THEM SQUARE!!!". What do you know...

So what's the problem? Cropping is not a sin. With today's technology you can shoot what you have and whack it down to any format you want...

Maybe young men don't like much or not at all square format. Perhaps do I like this format because my first camera was a Rolleiflex ?

Archaic feeeling but I wish I could find that romantic sensation with modern cameras.

Best regards.

My first camera was a broken/repaired Rolleicord when I was eight. After university I have been shooting with Hasselblad. Always dreaming there is a cheap used CFV digital back for sale . . .

I also like the square format and use it quite often. Fortunatly, my Dlux has it and for some shots, it is quite interesting to compose in that format.

I very much like your first shot!

My favorites are the first two images. I think the square format is not utilized enough these days and that many images would benefit by the use of it. Thanks for sharing your images with us!

Thanks! Love the black background with a square-format . . . it makes the objects on the table really stand out.
