Is my lens broken?
Jan 12, 2012

I recently went to Best Buy and the sales associate suggested a lens for my new Nikon DSLR. It is a 1.8 x f35mm lens for $200. I guess it is part of Nikon's prime series, so that must mean that it's really good, right?

However, when I turn the end of the lens, it doesn't zoom in or out. It just makes it really blurry. I can't seem to figure out how to zoom.

Is there something wrong with this lens? I'm shooting my first wedding this weekend, so I need to figure out what is wrong with it.

Thanks

It's a bit early for an April Fool's Day joke.

but I'll play.

The lens is fine; but you may want to check the loose nut behind the eyepiece.

Do you think it will still be good enough for the wedding if I just set it to autofocus (no zoom) and leave my camera on auto mode?

I don't want to disappoint the bride. She is paying me a ton of money ($500), and I'm afraid that if I do a bad job, I won't have enough photos to use for my ad on Craigslist.

Oh well, I suppose I could just borrow some pics from a fellow professional photographer to show prospective clients what kind of pictures I try to take.

You are using the lens wrong. If you rotate the end of the lens in a clockwise manner, you need to balance it out by rotating the camera ibody n an anti-clockwise manner.

If you rotate the lens the other was, reverse my above instructions.

That should make things come out OK.

A "friend" thought it would be funny to post this. Sorry if anyone's been offended.
