Sigma's next camera will be ???
Dec 13, 2011

Anyone have any clues as to what the next model of camera will be that Sigma will introduce? I would really like a DP series model with some improvements in speed and viewing options, something akin to what Fuji is doing would be super.

The question was: what the next camera will be - not what you want. Sometimes its like that - you dont get what you want. Tough. But thats life.

Yes - there probably are. Most at Sigma and some outside. But ... those that do know will not tell you. And in the light of the almost total marketing failure SD1, I dont know if Sigma is interested in leaking at trade shows any more. Except for some few people, even the hardest fans are either critical or quiet, some very critical.

But we have a ball sometimes guessing. Some "knows" there will be a lesser sensor in a cheaper camera. Some (like me) "knows" that this is futile and just a waste of money and time. And some others "knows" that the SD1 sensor will be used in a DP camera. And some "knows" its the end of Sigma cameras and the world as we know it. Lots of knowledge, but very different

And now the rumor of the FF Pentax SLR pops up again. Some "knows" its true this time. Lots of fun.

Roland Karlsson will be around and continue posting on the Sigma forum in 10 years - even if Sigma has stopped making cameras and despite the fact that Roland does not shoot with a Sigma camera right now

Hm ...

Yeah, that would be nice. But I guess a matching wood-encased battery grip for the SD1 is more likely, since they are releasing one anyhow. Let's see whether they will bundle it with the SD1. I say you will have to pay extra. Not enough margin on the body itself.

Hello mkr,

Only a non SIGMA-user is unbiased enough and has the competence to judge a technology by looking at other oeople pictures.
In his native Pentax forum he definitely is not the leading commentator.

Why?

Has anyone has a link to pictures made by Roland Karlsson?

Yes, I'd like to see a DP1/2 body with a manual zoom, fast constant aperture (f/2.8) similar to what's found on the Fuji X-10. Something like a 17mm to 70mm would be great. Of course, the Sigma would have to have a larger image circle to account for its 1.7x sensor (vs. 2/3" sensor of the X-10).

You want the future? Well. I asked my favourite fortune teller (on your behalf) and she declared that her crystal ball told her to stick to intelligent questions. : )

But, if the next top pro models from CanIk are anything to go by, the MP race has been abandoned and the D4 will be 16.2MP whilst the 1D5 will be 18MP.

Where does that leave Sigma with its 46MP flagship, mmm? Does this mean that their marketing "brains trust" can now safely jack the price up even higher since their baby has more than double MP?

Happens ... and I dont know what to think really - its polite, and thats nice - but is it constructive? Who knows, maybe the poster needs praise to feel fine. Maybe the praise will make the poster more interested in making and showing photos. Or maybe it will only boost the ego and the poster will never learn to take good photos.

For searching after pictures, I wouldn't look into a forum...

Nope ... better places for that.

Well ... thanks!

Same here.

But ... personally I have to make a decision. It seems like the Sigma adventure never will get any place interesting. A pity for the Foveon technology. So ... how long is it really worth while to be here?

You are right but I do not see any other possible future camera for Sigma. Maybe a DP3 zoom, but in this case quality will drop.
However who knows the future, Sigma is not even living in this planet.

Roland,

next year, on the 12.12.12 at 12:12:12 CET, I make my decision in this regard...

...U see, there is still about one year to go and rambling without a critical AND constructive voice, like You and DMillier, is as annoying, as following the Sigma road to nowhere...

I give them a last chance to follow that advice:

8Mp DPX or DP1 hopefully
In reply to bbodine9, Dec 14, 2011

An interchangeable lens DPX based on a new 8Mp sensor with none of the Foveon look lost or at least an 8mp DP1 hopefully with a proper screen, decent ergonomics, proper CPU & Buffer and decent build quality to the lens mechanism

Why did you link to that thread I started?

I'm not a "cheerleader" for the SD1 or Sigma, I'm just looking for some new SD1 photos after not reading this forum much due to the, funny thing, negativity.

BTW this Japanese photographer has landscape work which I find attractive,
