Sandisk SDHC(I) 16Gb Card error on the PEN-E-PL3 camera.
Oct 21, 2011

I just received my new PEN-E-PL3 camera but the camera give card error! Try to format him in the camera but no way, card error stil remains. Write Protection switch on gives the correct message into the camera.

Same card on the PC works perfect, even formatting quick or full works. Card into the Sony A620 works also. The card is a Sandisk Extreme (HD Video) SDHC(I) of 16 Gb (30 MB/s).

Other slower cards of 1 and 2 Gb works perfect on the PL3 camera.

Any ideas? I suspect problems with this faster card version by the Olympus driver.
( current software camera version 1.0)

I had the same thing happen - I think its the same card - Extreme Pro HDSC-1, 45mb/s. I bought a couple of these for my X100 because it really NEEDS a fast card to function well. I tried one in the EP3 and it worked fine, but when "side-graded" from the EP3 to EPL3, it wouldn't work. Still won't. I just don't think the camera supports the really high end cards. I think there was a similar discussion around here a while back about the EPM1 also having the same problem. The good news is that the EPL3 works quite well with slightly lesser cards. But that one doesn't seem to be working for anyone.

Thanks Ray.

I use the slower version memory cards now too. This works. I hope Olympus make an softawre update. Just now there are few users for the PL3. I want this camera (2) for high-speed 3D macro shots of in-flight insects. So I need the high speed of this camera (short shutter-lag in manual mode). I have also the adaptor for the Nikon F-mount and will use 2 lenses AF105/2.8D macro for this setup. A beamsplitter system will gives the perfect high-speed macro 3D pictures (Insects in-flight from 1mm size and more).

Thanks for the link Frans. Yes I had already seen the link. On the box of the memory card there is the type number:
SDSDX-016G-X46
SDHC UHS-I Card for video and photos
Class 10
30MB/s ° 200X

This corresponds to the list in the link But it does not works. Still CARD ERROR. I can not format the card in the camera. All other slower cards are working well here. Conversely, the new card works well on my other Canon A620 camera or into the PC.

If you are getting Sandisk SDHC card error on the PEN-E-PL3 camera than it might be that memory card used in the camera is corrupted. Reformatting the memory card wil resolve all the card related error but reformatting will delete all the images stored in it. in this case you need a third party software to get back lost images. Mac Photo recovery software will help you to get you lost photos back.
