I can only hope a proper camera maker takes on the Foveon sensor and treats it right.

Poor Sigma. Trying to fix the big screw-up of few months ago just to now make it worse, much worse.

Why not publicly and widely declare they made a mistake and reprice that camera for what its worth?
Telling a lie always leads you to tell more lies. Oldest of morals!

They might as well produce a one of one diamond embedded model and sell it to the Sultan of Brunei. End of story.

This must be some kind of prank. At this point I think Sigma is just trolling.

Ya gotta look on the positive side...when the camera quits working you can burn it in your fireplace...

It sounds like a better idea than it actually is. Burl feels great in your hands (in the form of a pipe or a gearshift knob) but it really makes the camera ugly. I think it might have been better to use a high-qality carbon fiber or something like that if they wanted a more exotic look and feel.

hey guys . . . lighten up!

If the Olsen twins can persuade fashonistas to part with $39,000 for an alligator skin backpack (and I understand they are selling like hot cakes) then there will be plenty who will happily pay 10,000 euros for this camera.

It may not be everyone's taste, although I have to admit I rather like it, there will be enough who do to make it a winner for Sigma.

And if the mindset shown in the OP ever expands much beyond its current bounds, there is a good chance you never will have.

I don't have money to spend on that camera either, but I recognize that spending on that kind of extravagance is not immoral. It's the life-blood of any thriving economy. My son, for example, is an artisan who makes smoking pipes by hand from wood similar to what's on that camera body. His pipes are extravagances - they sell for hundreds of dollars each - and they provide the food, clothing and shelter for him and my daughter-in-law. When I think of what would happen to his business and thousands of others if people stopped spending on extravagant non-essentials (including most photography), I have an urge to scream at those who suggest that there is something immoral about such purchases. He would obviously end up just like my best friend's son, an avionics technician who is now unemployed thanks to the ridiculous "moral war" on general aviation.

I had initially dismissed this camera as grossly overpriced. now with the lovely wood finish I cant wait to get mine! really, they must have idiots doing the marketing plan. too bad, they make some great third party lenses, maybe they should stick to that, without the wood.

Sorry, I have no Idea what a wood burl camera is, do you mean wood burning perhaps? A link would be nice for the uninitiated as with a name like that it sounds interesting.

Animal hides don't power cars, leather uphostery increases the appeal of an auto interior.

Nylon might seem like silk, but nothing beats the natural for fineness.

Cheap vodka sells for $18 / liter, the classy stuff for $70.

A $10k gentleman's watch will not be mistaken for a $10 toy.

A $5k / night CEO suite is not your Motel 6.

Membership at top golf clubs starts with a $100k bond and a $30k / year fee, which amounts to something over $1k / game. For some, its worth the price to avoid running into Homer Simpson or Bubba on the links.

The list goes on and on. Wealth has its accoutrements, and there is no point in being a tycoon if you can't show it.

Why should anyone merit envy for a mere DSLR? Half the observers won't know the difference between one dorky camera and the next. But here we have a model that stands out. It will make other guys drool, the women swoon.

"Hi there, handsome. Mind if I take a look at that marvel you've got there?"

"Sure. Let's go over to my Corvette, where I've got the lens kit."

"Say, I need a ride."
