New FZ150 Shots Today
Oct 2, 2011

Picked up the camera today, it took an extra day to reach my local store. Had time for a few shots. This first rose photo is full zoom at 600mm. The dome roof is also at full zoom. The camera really is nice. I'm a LX5 owner, FZ100 owner, along with a bunch of Canon DSLR gear. This FZ150 is what the FZ100 should have been. But oh well. Tried the 12 fps burst at a football game today, nice. Short video test looked great, I'll spend more time with it tomorrow. Try some birding or something.

The images seem to hold up pretty well when cropping.

Wow. These pop. My Amazon finger is twitching.

These are firmware 1.0. While these are small jpg samples I had a hard time finding real noise in the shadows.

I was just looking at your wildlife gallery and you got skills man.

Seeing as you have choices with several camera, Gary do you expect to use this camera much when trying to capture hummingbird images?

Really nice!
Post processed or OOC?

Happy to hear your thoughts on z150 vs z100 since I own the later and am considering a swap (The fz100 was all could wish for from a feature and control standpoint, but I sure spent a lot of time on p-p. Perhaps fz150 would serve me better).

I'll probably use it for birding sometimes, it's sometimes fun to leave the bigger gear at home and just take a digicam out for the day. Since it holds up well to cropping I expect to get some pretty decent bird photos with it. I'm going to try it with the 1.7x teleconverter lens tomorrow too. I'll see how it looks with that.

Very slight post process, only resize, slight level adjust and a little unsharp mask. Just took a few seconds.

I can tell right away it's quite a bit nicer than the FZ100 (image wise). My FZ100 is going to be a gift to someone who needs a camera/video unit.

This is a VERY rough example of what I want to use this camera for. 600mm lens with a PP dof mimic. Should be fun!

As my grandmother used to say, "Now, we're cookin' with gas!" These are great, Gary. Sharp, nice color, everything I could ask for. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with bird shots, both with the teleconverter and the camera solo.

That looks good, nice job. Almost has a wide aperture look from a dslr lens.

Just jpeg files at first.
In reply to VadymA, Oct 2, 2011

Haven't actually tried the RAW files on it yet so those were just jpeg.

Nice shots! Thanks for posting these. I ordered my FZ150 and it should be here on Tuesday or Wednesday. Your shots have inspired me to get out and see what it can do ASAP. Thanks again!

The FZ150 may give Canon SX40 HS a run for its money. The FZ150 colors pop in good light. I dare say they look a lot like Canon's color palette.

Excellent photos Gerry. I hope to have my camera this Wednesday or the day before.
I can't wait to try it, having sent back a FZ100 and a Sony HX 100.
Kind regards.
Joao

Very slight post process, only resize, slight level adjust and a little unsharp mask. Just took a few seconds.

The highlight-details have a nice, linear look to them (free from the irritating CCD image-sensor non-linearity and subsequent "blooming" phenomena).

The shadows in your post-processed images here look good (relatively free from visible image-sensor noise).

Could you expound a bit on what you did in regards to "level adjustments"? I see that you used a manual Exposure Compensation of -2/3 EV (on at least one of the shots). Did you raise the shadow-tones? Did you reduce the highlight-tones? Did you increase the lower mid-tones using any additional Gamma correction?

Regards,

DM
