Wow! Thanks a lot for the previews! I haven't been following the chatter on these lenses. They are all due out on the 24th? Also, what is expected price of each?

Re: Wow (nt)

They will be officially announced on the 24th.

It is then likely to be a few weeks before you can buy one.

That long zoom is WAY too dark -- 4.5-6.3!!! I suppose it's to keep the size down, but wow. I'd like to see it compared (size-wise) to the Canon 55-250, which is 5.6 at the long end, and is a very light, compact lens with IS.

I refuse to wed myself to any of these vendors. I'm just having fun taking pictures,
and watching the technology develop.

Thanks for quoting the images, keeps my scroll wheel busy .

Hard to say right now, but I believe the Canon is quite a bit bigger, with a filter size of 58mm vs 49mm.

The Sony lens has IS, too, and is just 1/3 stop slower.

More importantly, where are those images from ?

Looks like the Zeiss is slightly shorter than the zoom kit. I'm glad they made the lens black to perfectly match the black NEX-7. I'm excited that finally the NEX is getting a high quality lens.

Yes this is what the NEX system need

This and a few more maybe. Maybe a better 16mm and a new 85mm with
some near macro properties (1:4 or better).

For me the 16mm looks ok (from image samples I have seen here and other places). But it has been so much talk about it so if possible maybe Sony could updated it. And of course a few more pancakes if possible would be nice.

I guess the 50mm will be nice for portrait shooting. Not so much DOF and
nice bokeh. The first true E-mount portrait lens... at last!

Fabulous Stuff

Fabulous Stuff - just what NEX needs - being non-Pancakes, the 24 and 50 should be far less compromised - the tele-zoom is a bit slow (these things are usually F5.6 at the long end) but has their excellent OIS so not a disaster ..........

The KEY thing will be PRICE - they've really got to be in the same ballpark as the Nikon 35 F1.8, 50 F1.8 and 55-200VR - Hopefully they won't "Sony-out" on us and ask laughable prices like the 18-200 and keep to sensible prices like the budget SAM lenses for Alpha mount .

an 18mm F2.5 would be the most likely (easier to make and a direct competitor to the Panny 14mm which M43 has), an 85 F1.8 would be superb .

Here i made a quick comparison. I think it should be quite correct so that everybody can see how big the lenses really are.

Erm, I think you forgot about sensor size. 18mm on an APS-C sensor is an EFL of 28mm. 20mm on an mFT sensor is 40mm. Not even close.

Also, the SEL18200 is comparable to other 18-200mm zoom prices, the Nikkor 18-200mm G ED VR II is the same price, Samsung's 18-200 ED (NX) is the same.

Read again - I said Panny 14mm = 28mm

Got a point about the Nikon (which is now Vastly overpriced - the optically identical Mk1 debuted at £399 - the price Tamron's better variant is now)

Re: Yes this is what the NEX system need

i think they are a bit tooooo large for the system. where are the pancakes.....i know because the shirt flange distance it is harder to make shorter lenses, but the 50mm prime still should be at least shorter than the kit zoom lens.

they've probably used the optics from the Cheapo SAM 50mm which requires the deep flange distance to work and stuffed CD-AF friendly electronics in - just a guess, but it'd keep the price down and the optics are already there and pretty good
