It’s a wrap !

After spending last fall in Haines, Alaska I’ve finally finished working up all the images I’m going to workup before I go back this November for the festival and tour. It amazes me that I have been still working up images from a shoot months past, but with so many opportunities there, I was keeping about 200 images a day. I wanted to share my favorite images from the time there as we are all looking towards the new equipment coming out and new photographic opportunities. If you ever get a chance, add Haines to your bucket list.

All images are from my trusty D300 and a 500mm f/4. This is a fantastic combo for the eagles ! Thanks Nikon.

Great captures and processing. Is it guaranteed to get eagles during a visit?

Thanks for sharing them

Great work! I've photographed eagles in Homer, but not Haines.

Can you provide a link to the workshop?

Thanks for the lovely images! Most inspirational!

I typically don't use teleconverters, especially in-flight as it slows down the autofocus.

Paul,

The American Bald Eagle Foundation hosts the festival in Haines each November. Its a great time as the supply transport to the eagle grounds and other activities.More info on this can be found here:

The tour info you requested can be found on my website below.

Jemini,

In November, typically 3000 eagles migrate to Haines for a late salmon run. I would never say it's "guaranteed" concerning wildlife, but it would be bizarre if you did get to see any eagles.

Those are some of the best bald eagle shots I have ever seen.

I was in Haines for a day last month. We were looking for other wildlife at the time. Now I need to go back. I already wanted to go back, because the Chilkat valley is so beautiful.

Hi Matt,

I would be hard challenged to refer anyone to better Bald Eagle shots!

I might have some time to get away from work this fall, and now that I have the appropriate equipment (D3, 500VR, RRS tripod with Gimabal head, etc.), I'm seriously thinking of getting up to Haines.

Any suggestions about time of year, travel arrangements, accomadations etc.?

Thanks!
