6/12/2011 Weekly Landscape Show & Tell
Jun 12, 2011

Ben & I are hosting the Weekly Landscape Thread on rotating months. Our hope is that someone else will step up to take a month in the rotation. Andy (SeaScout851) has been kind enough to volunteer to sub for us when we are out of town during our designated months. However, we need someone permanent in our rotation.

The gist of the weekly topic is to share, learn, and grow, with help from like-minded shooters. BUT REMEMBER, you're amongst fellow photographers, who are interested as much in how you got the shot and made the presentation, as they are in the presentation itself.
How it works here:

To post your submission, return to the first message and hit REPLY. This gives each submission it's own thread within this topic (view the topic in Threaded view, to understand).

We ask that images be embedded (displayed in message), rather than linked, for the convenience of all. Please provide the shooting information for each image in the message body where possible (Camera, lens, FL, aperture, shutter speed, ISO).

Cityscapes, abstract landscapes B&W are suitable subjects here. Old images are also fine does not need to be this weeks shot. Does not need to be Canon.

All taken with Canon 20D and 85 f1.8.

Not a good day to take this kind of photos due to the mist in the horizon. But here it goes...

Scenic Mull
In reply to Rick Knepper, Jun 12, 2011

My usual area of photography is wildlife, macro and sport. However the landscape on Mull is irresistible so I had to give it a try. Any comments on how to improve these photos would be welcome.

Nice series. For me the first is the best. It has a nice sense of depth.

Hey Steve,

All three are well done. We were there in 09 for 6 days but never made it to Mammoth Hot Springs. Just too much in Yellowstone to see. But your pictures kindle the desire to return.

Hey Peter,

Some nice shots but for me this first one outshines all the rest.

Tetons from the Oxbow Bend
In reply to Rick Knepper, Jun 12, 2011

Shot with 40d and 18-55IS in the summer of 09.
18mm at f14

I can sure see a difference in the quality of this lens and my current 15-85.
Plus I did not realize at the time that f14 would make the picture softer.

The first image is an outstanding composition followed closely by the third.

I like the most the two photos with the fishing boats. Good framing and color.

Very interesting and informatibe images - especially like the 2nd & 3rd. The first seems to be tilting but could be the way the "steps" were formed naturally.

This is my favorite composition out of the group. You might want to check the horizons in a few of these. Look for tilted bodies of water.

Nicely done, I have never been good at doing the thermal features in Yelllowstone.

Hi Andy, these are fine shots, but its really hard to get the contrast in those mountains at mid day. More a matter of light than aperature.

Hi Rick, thats a tough spot to be in as I well know. I have my main computer in my motel room, but a crummy monitor attached so I am also loath to comment on IQ and don't trust my PP from recent work.

I hope you get a chance to get some images there however.

Hey Ben,

We left our cabin around 5:00AM just outside the East Gate of Yellowstone. Got to the Oxbow just at 8:30. We only gave ourselves 1 day for the Tetons. This based upon some comments from friends. We really should have spent around 3 days there.
