Can highly recommend this lens. Very cheap & very beautiful rendering.

More to come...

I have this lens too, made in 1963 to be precise. I like it a lot despite its very soft focus and slight play in the focusing ring. It is wonderfully atmospheric and the size of the unit is great.

Optically I have similar affection for the Helios 58/2, but that's a big lump to handle.

Anyway, congratulations with your lens. Beautiful picture. You seem to have a sharper sample than me by the way and I hadn't noticed that curious ringy bokeh in mine. What year was it built (1st 2 numbers of serial #)?

When there is a lot going on in the background, I prefer stopping it down just a tiny bit, to lose the swirl in the bokeh. I don't see swirling in yours though. Wonderful stuff in the back.

Many thanks! Your picture is also I once in a lifetime shot. Really stunning!

I have to say it's really sharp enough. And the contrast is really, really beautiful.
It's apparently from 1973, so just 9 years older then me

I am going to sell my Voigtländer Nokton 35/1.4 now. The Jupiter really does the job!

Spot on!

Due to the pressure Russia had from imperialistic world, their designers were creative in a different, yet intriguing way.

For instance, if someone prefers step-less aperture change (btw. circle @ all Fs) and likes an element of chaos in the picture, there is no better choice than MIR 37/2.8 (M42).
That lens won some Grand Prix in Brussels (1958 World Fair).

Nevertheless I'll not use it because it turns the other way round like that whole stupid system did at that time...

This is actually fun! You can seamlessly fine tune and very gently influence your exposure with this. With the aperture

Be careful not to buy the Contax RF (RangeFinder) version. It is even more abundant and cheap than the 'Russian Leica' version (L39 or M39) and useless on the NEX without a costly adapter, since it has no focusing ring. I have to admit I have one of those Contax-mount Jupiters in a drawer...
