WARNING: Big problems with Capture NX2.2.6 update!!!
Oct 27, 2010
  • I was updating Capture NX2.2.5 to 2.2.6

  • License key was asked. No problem I thought, I bought NX1 officially from a Nikon dealer in the sealed package and later on I bought Nikon NX2 upgrade from Nikon internet store.

  • I get a mesage that I have to buy "a real" license.

  • Thought I made a mistake with entering the key...

-Second try, third try, getting nervous... 10th try...

  • Same message... I feel accused from using illegal software while I payed full price for the original in a sealed package at a Nikon dealer...

  • I tried to reinstall 2.2.5...

  • Same message, same misery...

  • Lost my beloved NX2 program completely.

  • I'm VERY angry!!!

You first need to key in your NX2 license and then it asks for the NX1 license. I had a problem early in the process because I used the key that was shown in the screen (NX2 and NX1). But this screen shows the key with 1 character missing.

I contacted Nikon Netherlands and they retrieved my NX2 license. The NX1 license was still on the package (I bought that software package and only the upgrade key). Nikon updated my registered products with the NX2 code.

You might have the same problem.

Good luck,
Marcello

I know, did that, it mentions my NX1 license isn't valid(The one I bought in a sealed Nikon CD box).

The NX1 license was still on the package (I bought that software package and only the upgrade key).

Did the same, but it doesn't work.

I contacted Nikon Netherlands and they retrieved my NX2 license.

Will do the same tomorrow

Nikon updated my registered products with the NX2 code.

Hope they will

Did you buy both NX1 and NX2 from
In reply to photoforfun, Oct 28, 2010

reputable dealers like B&H or Nikon itself?

Sounds liek you;re scared as if there was some sort of issue... if you did buy them legally why worry? LOL. Sounds like you're feeling guilty for maybe making a bad purchase?

I can tell you I have had TONS of licensing issues with Adobe products over the years and NEVER did I worry one bit because I had legitimate purchases. They ALWAYS fixed the issues in the end.

Same goes for Microsoft ... tons of licensing issues, and ALWAYS a resolution after I proved legitimate purchases.

I say take it easy and ride the system out until you;re al resolved. This is NOT A MAJOR WARNING TYPE PROBLEM but more of a licensing issue... no need for the dramatics in my opinion.

Manny,

I got the same warning and message and now my system is useless for editing photos in NX2. It says it is invalid and the trial period has clearly expired. Sitting here with images I cant process.

Got my D7000 today and was hoping to use it soon.

Hmmm, mine updated no problems. Maybe you downloaded a different version of sorts. Im in asia and i know i can only download and update from nikonasia. If i try a download from europe or the us sites, it just wont install saying i don't have the right key..or that my key is invalid.

I bought my NX1 in a sealed CD rom box at a Nikon dealer and I bought the NX2 update from the official Nikon internet store.
According to the screenmessage I get, the problem is with the original NX1 key.
Phoning with Nikon Netherlands(Dutch NX version) in 10 minutes...
Curious...

I wasn't asked for my license number - just a straight download and install - from Nikon UK.

No issues here. I too have a NX1 code and an upgrade code for NX2. On installing the 2.2.6 update on my iMac I wasn't asked to enter the license codes again. I downloaded my update as usual from the Nikon NL website.

Ditto here, no problems downloading from Nikon Australia and upgrading on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Not asked to provide key and I would expect to be asked. Never have before.

My NX was ordinally installed soemtime ago as a NX2 fresh install and having to provide my NX2 Key then my NX1 key. I hope like heck when and if NX three comes out I don't have to go through NX3 key , NX2 key and NX 1 key

Problem SOLVED!
In reply to photoforfun, Oct 28, 2010

2 hours after I contacted Nikon support Belgium by phone and email while providing them a picture of my original CD, license key and invoice of my NX1 license purchase, they send me an email with a new product key.

Still have to re-install and run a test but I'm convinced the problem is solved.

This is why DRM hurts the honest user. Any one that wants Nikon Capture can get it in two minutes with out paying for it, and I have no sympathy for these greedy corporations.

Re: WARNING: Big problems with Capture NX2.2.6 update!!!

Same problem. I have a legitimate version of Capture NX1 and a legitimate version of Capture NX2 (upgrade). I have the product keys for both. I recently tried to update NX2 and lost access to the program. I uninstalled all Capture NX versions, tried to reinstall JUST Capture NX1 and it wouldn't accept the product key.

I also tried to install NX2, and it accepted the NX2 product key, but then it wanted the NX1 product key which is now invalid.

I sent Nikon an email through their support website, fully expecting to not hear back and I have not been dissappointed.

I like the idea of sending Nikon a photo of my cd covers with the product key. I'll have to call them to find out where to send the info.

I have both Capture NX2 and Lightroom. I have stuck with Capture NX2 primarily for the control point technology and partially out of loyalty/familiarity. But, I am constantly frustrated with the slow renderings in Capture NX2 (yes, I have a very fast desktop with separate hardrives for my data and my cache/temp files). This may be the last straw.
