NX lenses comparison: 20-50mm VS 18-55mm
Oct 6, 2010

There is a post in Korean web forum which compares new 20-50mm lens with 18-55 lens of NX mount.

I uploaded the pictures in DPReview album with the posters permission.

The pictures are too small to see differences in this post, please visit the original post in following URL if you want to see bigger picture.

Interesting, but something looks fishy here.
Why is the 18mm clock bigger than the 20mm one in the first F3.5 comparison?
Can't be unless the camera was moved?!

Also a bit strange that the colors in the 18/20 compare are different while in the 50/55 comparison they are much more similar.

Anyway, the 20-50 seems much sharper at the right side at F3.5, that's definitely a plus!

Ok, so, as a conclusion, it seems this 20-50 is better than 18-55 at corners. But overal performance is higher for the 18-55 which seems more sharp, especially at the center.

They could have tested these lenses at a middle range...like 30mm...would have been interesting to see.

General peformance is quite good for this 20-50! It is so small!

And why are the clocks on the second F5.6 comparison shot under different angles? Were they moved as well?

On the other hand, 20mm clock is much more distorted, that's definitely a minus.

In according the post, he took the pictures under fluorescence light at night.
So, the light condition was not very good to take the test.

He guessed the color difference might be caused by shutter speed or something else.

Keep in mind the fact that something was moving all the time and maybe 18mm F3.5 clock was simply out of focus. For instance, central clock on 18mm F3.5 shot is bigger than the one on F11 shot, while right-side clock on 18mm F3.5 shot is smaller than the one on F11 shot. This happens when you move camera to the left and turn it to the right.

Would be great to see a comparison in a stable setup, and then compare

20-20 and 50-50, not 18-20 and 55-50. And doing the same at 30mm while adding the pancake lens would be great.

Anybody having shots under the same condition between the 18-55mm and the 30mm at both 30mm?
