Buy both! Tammy for on the go, vacations etc. Leave the Beast for professional work at the studio, weddings etc. Can't afford both then start on the Tammy. Odds are that you will be on the move. I took the beast to Disney World and I ended with neck and back ache. Remember I had the D300s on me too. I heard the new 24-70mm is marginal in regards to weight reduction too.

It seems complex answer:
For best IQ on crop body a good copy of Tammy is enaugh.
On FF nikkor 28-70 is good but 24-70 much better at corners.
My Tamron on FF is worse than new sigma 24-70 hsm (and better than sigma on DX).

I tried 4 pcs of 28-75 of which 1 had decentering, 2 had slow motor speed and only one was free of sensible defects.

While 28-75 useable at f/2.8 it definitely better at f/3.3, good at f/4 and excel at f/5.6.
So I use it as walkaround with D300s.

It's incredible that someone here said that the Tamron is only sharp at F8 . He must have a bad copy because my copy is extremely sharp from edge to edge by f4 onward and center sharp with slightly soft edges at 2.8 . I've got six lens including Sigma 105 macro and this lens is almost as sharp as the Sigma edge to edge from f4 onward at ANY focal lenght ! Only the extreme edges are slightly soft at 2.8 with excelent center sharpness.

I was thinking the same thing.

If they go through the past reviews & comments on the 28-75, the OP will see that most people say stuff like you did about the lens not that other guy.

Tamron 28-75mm at F4 . Photo was taken on a Electrical Moving staircase hand held . Look at the corners and center . Both very sharp . There is some noise because of the Iso my camera choose for the shot. Had it on auto ISO .

I am one that really likes my Tamron but I'm soon going to add either the beast or its successor. No question that the very center portion of the Tamron is very sweet but if you need anything more than the center sharp it will dissapoint, not many times I need it, but sometimes F4 or even F8 it is a bit soft for some shots.

There is no cheating optics, the Tarmon is smaller and lighter and has fancy elements etc. etc, but sometimes size and $ are required for the very best.

Love it, still a screaming value and suitable for 95% of my wide open shots, but ....
