3rd party remote for 550D that activates video
Jun 22, 2010

I see several 3rd party remotes that claim 550D compatibility, but it isn't clear whether they support the mode 1/2 switching that is on the Canon remotes that is necessary to activate the video rather than still photos.

Can anyone confirm is they usually have this setting?

I want one that provides digital timer functions. I am looking for example at a Yongnuo MC-36r wireless remote.
Or one of the many wired ones that provide timer functions.

But I want it to support video, not just stills.

Thanks in advance.

Can you activate video with it? Or just take stills?

I looked at the user manuals for the Hahnel Giga T Pro, and for the Seculine Twin1 ISR, but neither of them mentioned how to switch between mode 1 & 2

For many of the more unknown brands there are no manuals online I can find.

I bought this and it works
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290439585530

Top Left Button is the instant release and the top right button is the 2 second delay release which also serves as video trigger in video mode. Same as the Canon remote.

The bottom 3 buttons are for the canon G series which activates the shutter release and zoom.

Unfortunately it doesn't provide the timer functions I am looking for.

It seems there are several 'normal' remotes that provide mode 1/2 switching, but no timer remotes. Odd really.
