I don't know if Phil will be doing a review of the S2. However, there are several reviews of the S2 out there. Here are a few.

http://dfarkas.blogspot.com/ (actually there are several entries related to the S2 so be sure to check the right-hand column for previous posts)

When I saw the front page article "Leica releases Summarit-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH lens for S2" then looked at the price US $5295 I just had to laugh. This thing is clearly made for doctors, dentists and lawyers.

Images taken with S2
In reply to Edmond Terakopian, May 16, 2010

The pictures taken by the S2 would be the best determinant of the performance of the system but so far there do not seem to be many other than those contrived to show off some performance aspect, or the tedious fashion-shoot type pictures.

I would love to see examples of railway photography taken with the S2. Steam or modern would both be fine. I have recently been enjoying a "coffee table" book of the modern scene where the pictures were taken with medium format film kit and the colours seem somehow much better than in enthusiast magazines - maybe the colours are more vivid, maybe it is the composition or more detail is visable, maybe I just expect the images to be better, I just find they seem to have a certain "look". So if anybody has some S2 train picture links, please post them.

In fact Leica may wish to consider placing their S2 in the hands of an enthusiast magazine's rail photographer to increase the profile of their product. I can think of few areas of photography that would provide such a physically demanding environment for equipment, is technically demanding (eg extremes of light and shade) yet where the results are so heavily scrutinised!

Thanks for sharing those pictures - that Baldwin looks like an interesting old engine.

I think the dynamic range of the S2 allows me see further into the shadows of the under-frame etc than would be the case with my own SLR. I may just be expecting this to be the case - it is difficult to tell, because I am looking only at the pictures on a computer monitor, and the light quality is almost certainly different to the UK scene (I think the contrast is greater because we rarely get such sunny days).

As for the resolution - wow - literally one for the rivet counters (though that is not really what I worry about).
